Been reading the physical edition of "Mastodon for Dummies" and it's really good! The authors have got into the spirit of Mastodon and the Fediverse, and it comes through in the text's gentle humour.

Well done to @workingwriter and @chrisminnick for their hard work! 👏

It should be out now in most countries, you can order it from any bookshop with the following info:

"Mastodon for Dummies"
by Chris Minnick & Michael McCallister
ISBN: 978-1-394-19336-3

p.p.s. You don't have to order books from giant online retailers. Small independent physical bookshops can get pretty much any book you want, and will let you know when it arrives.

All you have to do is tell the bookshop the name of the book and the author(s), they'll get it from their wholesaler and the profits will be supporting a small indie business instead of a big near-monopoly. Wholesalers can get a book to a shop surprisingly quickly, sometimes quicker than ordering online!

p.p.p.s As @jan points out, there are also online ordering services which help to support indie shops at bookshop.org and hive.co.uk

The indie shops will get more if you order direct from them, but these online options at least give indie shops some support.

Still a very sm0l bit of a dependency. The mutter tests require zenity, that depends on GTK3.

Boop the snoot👇

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Endeavour's STS-123 launch in 2008. Before docking with the ISS, commander Dominic Gorie did a roll pitch maneuver (a backflip) to allow the space station crew to photograph the heat shield.

in reply to NASA

If they had actually booped the snoot wouldn't have caused catastrophic damage to the thermal tiles?

This is Miss Tina. She lets me stay at her house when I'm in Detmold to perform with the Landestheater! She is a grrrrreat hostess, she always makes sure that I have enough fresh hair on my clothes and enough cat bellies to pet.

🚨BREAKING NEWS!🚨

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, is now co-authoring the ActivityPub plugin for WordPress.

The intent is to make WordPress a "first party Fediverse member" on par with Mastodon, Pleroma, and Pixelfed.

WordPress already powers 43% of all websites—and every one is a potential Fediverse server.

Automattic employee @kraft just confirmed this.

Mileva Marić Einstein was a physicist born in Serbia in 1875.

We remember her husband, Albert Einstein, as one of the most celebrated physicists of the 20th century, but I suspect most folks haven’t heard of her.

However, Albert & Mileva’s letters & other accounts suggest they worked together on his groundbreaking scientific contributions. They collaborated from the time they met in 1896 until their separation in 1914.

This is her story: blogs.scientificamerican.com/g… #science #history #HistoryRemix

Sheril, thank you for sharing about Mileva Einstein.

Your posts are enlightening.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

really if you read into other theories of the aether that were kicking around at the time, Einstein's geometricization of gravity is hardly groundbreaking. Many other models were largely equivalent
