NYT’s opinion writer Paul Krugman is declaring #climate is now a culture war issue 🤔
I worked in the U.S. Senate ~20 years ago. Covered climate as a journalist. Cofounded an NGO focused on science policy issues during elections. Am finishing a dissertation on how Congress has made decisions about #science policy for the last 1/2 century - with climate as a central theme.
This isn’t new. #ClimateChange has *always* been a culture war issue.

Scholars often hold an over-inflated myth about how quickly and easily our research can contribute to change.
Today when asked for a positive example of impactful research, I was reminded of @dynarski's 15 years of work to simplify government financial aid forms
fordschool.umich.edu/news/2021…
Dynarski’s research and advocacy for a simplified FAFSA becomes reality
Professor Sue Dynarski laid out the reality of pursuing higher education for many students in aGerald R. Ford School of Public Policy
Danny (he/they) reshared this.
That is helpful perspective, as I'm starting to feel deeply frustrated about progress on things I've been working on for about a decade.
Reminds me of Moyer's Movement Action Plan, where the critical pivot from resistance to change is getting through the "perception of failure" phase. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movement…
Congratulations @dynarski!
@ntnsndr I'm glad it's helpful context-setting!
One reason we get an over-inflated sense of research impact is that science is often deployed by powerful people & institutions to support things they were going to do anyway.
The result? Large amounts of fanfare and money go toward people and projects that have had minimal impact on the ultimate outcome.
As ever, disregard what a company says publicly and focus on what the legal documents says you are agreeing to when you use their product.

"A representation of the Egyptian Goddess Neith as a woman with an emblem of a shield with crossing arrows over her head, holding an Ankh and the Was scepter as she was depicted in The Tomb of Nefertari, 1255 BCE. This image contains some artistic liberties so that Wikipedia readers can tell her apart from the rest of the Egyptian Deities."
IMO not shield and arrows, loom and weaving.

The feature is built into Mastodon, but for some unknown reason there's no official interface for it yet. That's why it is only available through third parties.
