#OTD in 1986, as the crew of Space Shuttle Challenger (STS-51L) perished when the vehicle exploded shortly after liftoff.

They were Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Greg Jarvis, and Judy Resnik. #NASARemembers

I will never forget that day. I was a freshman in college and in the car with my girlfriend when the news broke. We got to a tv as soon as we could, horrified.

I hate puff stories like this normalising surveillance capitalism. Once it's been sold on, you don't know where it goes and say it with me "data leaks"

Consider if you want Palantir getting its grubby paws on it down the line.

Dead Space on Steam Deck is not good right now. Valve put up an "initial" shader cache, but it doesn't solve a lot of the other issues, like the map crashing the game that some other creators somehow entirely missed telling you.

Much like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and other games, it can also entirely reboot your Steam Deck.

CryoByte did an analysis on God of War and managed to fix the crashing:

Conical stone which served as the cult idol in the sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepafos, Cyprus - Wojciech Biegun, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons.
in reply to Solar Anamnesis

To test ancient stones a sample is required, no question. A stone cannot be stated as non-meteoritic unless a chemical sample and thin sections are made. One cannot say because it is non-magnetic and does not appear to be one, thus it is so. There are non-magnetic meteorites and appearances can be deceptive --- especially if it is anointed every day for centuries.
in reply to Solar Anamnesis

I see three possibilities: 1. The original meteorite was looted in antiquity and this is a non-meteoritic conical stone replacement; 2. This is a concial (oriented) meteorite. Possibly lunar; 3. This is not the sacred stone of Aphrodite but just another stone in the temple area used for similar purposes.

"Lunar meteorites contain a much smaller amount of metal than ordinary chondrites, so most are not attracted to a magnet."

Libraries are just amazing.

I’m on the other side of the world in a lovely public library in Australia & spotted a book I co-wrote 14 years ago. And no matter where you are, librarians are always the kindest, most helpful people you’ll find. Still, somehow, this magical system of exchanging #books & sharing ideas is entirely free.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Yes, free to users in many countries. Politicians realize that people expect libraries, and that there are benefits to having them. They are a source of knowledge, but also a community centre.

👩‍🍳 Just Egg

👩‍🍳 goat cheese mixed in

👩‍🍳 a little parmesan sprinkled on top

Baked at 350 for 20 minutes.

Our kids are more aware of the social cues and memetic layering in digital spaces than we are. Rather try to insulate them from what we fear about digital culture, we need to retrieve and share with them what we value most about critical thinking.

Interesting. I've been thinking about this a lot with my kid starting out with email—writing to mom and grandma. Already he is exhibiting all the anxious checking I struggle with, but I'm hopeful that he can learn the lessons of that struggle earlier than I have.

sadly we didn't expect #EA to actually care and make a good and playable game...

That being said unless it's spec-wise designed to be impossible to play [i.e. absurd anticheat] I'd say that'll get fixed by the community over time...
