The methanogen core and pangenome: conservation and variability across biology’s growth temperature extremes

"Increased methanogenic growth temperature is associated with reduced genome size, and thermotolerant organisms...have larger core genome fractions, suggesting that genome size is governed by temperature rather than phylogeny. "

It’s hard to express just how massive a release Safari 16.4 is for web developers.

Last night, I was reading replies web developers posted on Twitter back in 2021, when I asked what developers need most from WebKit — and the vast majority of things you asked for have now shipped.

What is your favorite feature that just shipped in Safari 16.4?? What will you do with it?

@charliebrownau @PublicLewdness Gas stove all the way, the only soy I have is soy sauce and definitely not vegan. But if you're so insecure about yourself that you tie your personality to your diet I wonder what that says about you.

Hey @nextcloud guys, I really would like to subscribe to your #newsletter but it seems like you are actively preventing it.

The given email address truly exists and yes, I already used a private browser window for it, so no addons are blocking anything.

The API is responding:

TRAPPIST-1 b: We give it a one (M-dwarf) star review; it lacks atmosphere. ⭐

Webb found the dayside temperature of this rocky exoplanet to be about 450º F (227º C) — suggesting it has no significant atmosphere: go.nasa.gov/3K9cS4g

Here’s why this is a big deal ⬇️
#JamesWebb

Scientists made models for TRAPPIST-1 b: with an atmosphere, and without. Webb’s results matched the model with no atmosphere. If TRAPPIST-1 b did have an atmosphere to circulate and distribute heat, its temperature should have been much cooler than what was measured.

How do you take a planet’s temperature? The team measured the change in brightness (in infrared light, or emitted heat energy) when TRAPPIST-1 b moved behind its star. This was a challenge because the star is 1000 times brighter, and the change in brightness was less than 0.1%.
