absolutely mind boggling the amount of work that is needed to review everything a malicious maintainer has ever touched in a repo. Great cleanup, though.
Choose maintainers wisely, or suffer… would be my takeaway from this.

“The universe is expanding, and faster now than it did in the past. Scientists don't know why, but the leading explanation is that the universe contains something that has a repulsive gravitational effect - it pushes the universe apart instead of pulling it back together. This phenomenon is called dark energy.”

"or, we've biffed a bit of math or observation somewhere along the extremely long chain of reasoning it takes to get to this conclusion."
But, the universe is certainly mighty weird, and is under no obligation to be sensible

It's so much more than simply throwing a bunch of related shots together. You can establish a mood, focus the viewer's attention, tell a complete story.
A book on Final Cut Pro by Diana Weynand (this was several years ago, so the lesson/content may have changed) included a scene from the series Leverage. Consisting of multiple takes, the student has to learn how to sync the audio with the video, but also incorporate different camera angles as characters speak and react to one another. It's fascinating.
