Muse's musings for the day:
It's much easier to be for something than to be against something.
Being against something can be disspiriting and cause burnout.
It can mess with your mental and emotional well-being, and be self eroding.
There is absolutely something to the concept of toxic positivity, but trust me, negativity is often toxic as well.
Like all things we need balance and nuance. We need to recognise when things are going wrong. We need to be able to say "no" and "stop". However, we cannot be consumed by only fighting wrongness. We must see a way to build functionality into our lives and our society. Be for a better world.

The serious side of ‘mansplaining’ has been lost. That’s where the harm begins
Rebecca Solnit
Correcting women who are experts in their field, talking over women who are experts in their field, expecting to be the only voice that is heard in a room when others know better: these are the tip of the iceberg and should be addressed. Not allowing others to speak simply for not being culturally privileged: that's the full problem.
The serious side of ‘mansplaining’ has been lost. That’s where the harm begins
The key context of the word inspired by my 2008 essay is that mansplaining is one part of a huge problem – of who gets listened to, and who gets believed, says writer Rebecca SolnitRebecca Solnit (The Guardian)

Glorious retro FPS 'Selaco' is now Steam Deck Verified and plans many huge gameplay upgrades

in reply to Muse • • •In a way, that's the primary reason I retired at 55 from news. Murders, fires, wars, corruption, injustice … day in, day out.
Switching to culinary was doing something I described as soul nourishing, sharing my enthusiasm for and love of food. Still days where I was crazy busy and hard at work, but I would feel tired at the end of a long day, as opposed to depressed/gloomy/pessimistic.

in reply to Muse • • •Being self-taught, I had a bit of impostor syndrome. A colleague (who had been formally trained) reminded me that I'd auditioned for the job against formally trained chefs who had experience at high end restaurants, and that I got the job.
The audition was 'demonstrate how to part a chicken and cook something with the chicken within 30 minutes.' What made the difference is that I was comfortable teaching/speaking, as well as cooking. (I made pan-seared chicken thighs, lemon-parsley rice, and glazed carrots. The review panel - the head chef, assistant head chef, and store manager - cleaned their plates. And I know that wasn't true of one of the other candidates.)
