A native GNOME office suite? It’s overdue. Let’s bring it back.

wow if they could make a gnome style, non outdated office UI, it would change the vision people have on Linux when I give them LibreOffice over MS Office. it would be huge for Linux's image.

The idea has been floating around for almost six years now: gitlab.gnome.org/bertob/app-id…

...but nobody has stepped forward to design the many pieces of UI needed and to write code for it all. We're talking hundreds of thousands of lines of code at the very bare minimum here, even if using a backend library :blobsweats:

#GNOMEoffice

Why? There's LibreOffice. Why not work to make existing projects better?

just contribute to libreoffice pls, we don't need another program that look out of place everywhere else

Yes, we need a lightweight alternative to #LibreOffice that integrates with the #Gnome desktop. However, we don't need a new office core, just a slim UI. #LibreOfficeKit is slim and extremely powerful. All documents supported by @libreoffice are displayed correctly immediately. @CollaboraOffice Onlline, iOS, Android uses it. @tdforg has already developed a prototype ‘#GTK Tiled Viewer’ dev.blog.documentfoundation.or…. I hope someone is interested in taking on the new @gnome office.
