Now would be a good time for all European politicians and journalists to setup accounts on Mastodon.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I saw a community note on the site earlier saying this was false does anyone have proof
in reply to Eugen Rochko

he's probably just sabre-rattling to try to put the EU in an awkward position so they back down on some things. I'd love to say it won't work, but...

Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong.

oh so this is what’s happening why there’s been a mass migration
in reply to Eugen Rochko

If Musk dare to do that, frankly in my opinion, many will indeed comes to Fediverse platforms, but others will just use other proprietary platforms such as Threads, Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram,... and have a high risk of those platforms doing these things again.

People do find Fediverse platforms so confusing to use, and because of brandim recognition and network effect, they will not recognize the problem of centralized platforms

in reply to Eugen Rochko

The EU is about to block X for promoting misinformation, so Musk is threatening to pull out before they can shut him down? Fine.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

“Elon Musk on Thursday denied a report that he was considering pulling the platform from the European Union”

…but take his word for what it’s worth.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

#conservative politician can stay on there. Right audience for them there and here they can't push their agenda on people not following. I won't tolerate their crap on my timeline.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

DSA is horrible. Give the politicians the power to tell who is right and who is wrong. Pretty bad that people think its a great thing to let politicians get more power and citizens less power, just beacouse they dislike Elon.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

mastodon needs to upgrade give direct message and quote posts feature.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

How about quickly adding quoting so they won’t have an excuse to not join?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

now is the second best time.

The best time was yadda yadda yadda

in reply to Eugen Rochko

be prepared for new user loads on the instances from Europe
in reply to Eugen Rochko

later on he said, he will not.
Unfortunately, all are going to Bluesky.
Reasons for not chosing Mastodon are already communicated.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

OpenAI also briefly blocked ChatGPT in Italy instead of complying with privacy laws. They hoped to flip the table and start a popular uprising, but it didn't work and they simply had to comply.

@winet Threads is not available in Europe.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

...if not for governments, organizations and corporations to setup their own :fediverse: servers and start federating.

Like @Bundesregierung or @ZDF did...

in reply to Eugen Rochko

Now would be a great time for all journalists to do it. I kind of like not seeing the GOP here though, if I am being honest. Twitter from what I hear, is full of nothing but hate and mostly bots now, for the most part, but I left so idk 🍸

in reply to Eugen Rochko

to be fair, I'm not sure it's so much. He's actually wanting to remove it so much as it's about to be removed for him
in reply to Eugen Rochko

As much as I loathe giving Elon the time of day….

If I’m the EU, and Elon’s threatening to pull Xitter from Europe, my first and only thought is:

“Well, I guess they just saved me a LOT of paperwork.”

in reply to Eugen Rochko

Been saying he should have already done it a long time ago already. Let them make their own network. EU thinks they can just run the world. GDPR for websites what/who? Not advocating for Musk especially after my Twitter account was suspended, but EU is no hero.

I think #Spacekaren only does this to get publicity, to try to stay interesting.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

maybe #Mastodon should quickly set up a crowdfunding campaign to start a proper marketing campaign asap?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Musk understands social media. The fewer users, the better for the platform. Above all, it makes it easy for advertisers to decide against spending on Twitter. Maybe some Twitter people will now realize that $11 was too much for Blue.

*Zuckerberg laughs in the background*

in reply to Eugen Rochko

it’s the kind of shoot-yourself-in-foot type of move he’ll definitely make.

@Musk will choose self destruction rather make a decent platform

in reply to Eugen Rochko

It may be a good time for them, but does Fediverse need more of the scum like journalists and politicians? I am not convinced.

Now would be a good time for all European political parties, institutions and news organizations to set up servers on fedi for their staff. Doesn't have to be Mastodon. For many, WordPress would fit better. Some might even prefer Pixelfed or PeerTube.

Nothing sayds "savvy businessman" than cutting off an area with 400 million people over a spat.

Edit: Oh and between this and the "pay to use" scheme they are rolling out...

und die Politiker, die bereits hier sind, könnten etwas Aufmerksamkeit gebrauchen, damit sie ihren Account nicht nach 5 Posts einschlafen lassen: https://politics-on-social-media.github.io/
in reply to Eugen Rochko

No! They should just stay there so we don't have to deal with them 😀
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Now it would be a good time for journalists, politicians and *scientists* to set up and use an account on #Mastodon

in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron@mastodon.

He keeps breaking EU/European laws & regulations.
That’s the entire reason for this spoilt child’s tantrum….

Glad to be over here, tbh

in reply to Eugen Rochko

We need toget the word out that mastodon even exists esp given we can't mention it on X in the first place
in reply to Eugen Rochko

On the basis of a nonsense trolling of the EU by Musk or on the basis that this nonsense is actually not nonsense?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

If he in fact does this, they may very well have to. We don't know for sure if he's doing this yet. I hope he does. But let's see
in reply to Eugen Rochko

From what I understand the fiasco formerly known as Twitter is on thin ice with the E. U. already. It's like the scenario, "you're fired! You can't fire me, I quit!".

There's no way he doesn't know he's got a shit show on his hands that he's created but won't admit it and can't figure out a way to fix it.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I suspect most will move over to Bluesky. I also have an account there as all the people seem to go there. Personally I prefer Mastodon.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

All Right Wing Platforms either block Europe, as standard, or decide to block Europe to avoid further trouble. This is fantastic news. I'd go further. I hope Europe blocks Starlink in retaliation. Imagine if Tesla was banned too.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Alternative headline. "Musk considers prospect of X being banned in the EU after he turned it into an uncontrolled disinformation cesspit."
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/nov/30/eu-raises-prospect-of-big-fine-or-ban-if-twitter-fails-to-follow-new-legislation
in reply to Eugen Rochko

The problem for politicians is that there no algorithm on Mastodon to boost their posts. They'd have to work to get noticed...🤣
in reply to Eugen Rochko

WOW great timing then for me making my #mastodon profile, I’m a Canadian but I love #europe and Europeans and want to immigrate there 😸 Be interesting if he does.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I already read he denied everything.

I'll be honest with you.
There are many who should switch here but also many who should not come here.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

And request a full dump of all your 'tweets' and other data so you have a backup.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

How come the BBC is allowed to spread misinformation?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

If right, that would help free bandwidth for better use : good new !
in reply to Eugen Rochko

This is the best social media platform I've ever been on. Even those I've disagreed with are civil and we end up being friends.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Good riddance if it's true, but I doubt that Xitter can afford to lose hundreds of millions of users. Sounds more like Musk blowing off some fetid gas.

As to why more politicians and journalists don't leave, I suspect it's because they put engagement above ethical values.

In the meantime, I am trapped on the hellsite because my suspension makes it logistically impossible to delete the account. If anyone knows a way round this, I would be grateful for the information.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

DANG dont promise me a bloody good time Space Karen you wont keep your word anyway.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Now would be a *really* good time for #Mastodon to make the photos forced into our timelines by the flashy new #PreviewCard either globally optional by user, or at least hideable on a post-by-post basis

How many time are we going to be forced to see #Musk's smirking face just because some web site we'll never visit is using it as click--bait

in reply to Eugen Rochko

😂 Perfect when dictator Elon Musk will remove his terrible Twitter from the European market 👍

Please Elon remove also all your garbage satellites which are crossing and polluting the space above Europe

Best would be also when you stop selling your Tesla cars in Europe

Elon 🤷🏻‍♀️ we do not need a dictator like you so please take everything with you and go far away

#DictatorMusk #InsaneMusk #Twitter #BoycottMusk #BoycottTesla #BoycottTwitter #DangerousMusk #Europe #EU

in reply to Eugen Rochko

most of European politics are still on X because they paid a lot for fake follower packages. They hold on to their investment and there's no yet such fake accounts business on #Mastodon
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I think if he does pull Twitter out of Europe, it will not be for any of the reasons he claims.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I want so badly for the next word to be "lambasting."
in reply to Eugen Rochko

you got that headline backwards. EU Considers removing X Platform from Europe over lies and spreading fake news .
in reply to Eugen Rochko

will he consider removing it from the face of the earth? That would be great too.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

in reply to Eugen Rochko

Goodbye, good riddance, we won't miss you one little bit!
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Oh, sure.

But pls don't bother...

"Don't stand in the doorway
Don't clutter the hall"...

No need to rush in, we will keep you informed.

in reply to Eugen Rochko

I wish I was rich and could choose which laws I wanted to apply to me. /s

Can't condemn friends still on Xitter, but respect them less. Don't they see how all this works? Is getting your own message out more important than doing the moral thing and getting the hell out?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

I thought there was a European parliament instance already? Or did that close?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

good, it's just more proof that Elon wants to manipulate people, his idea of free speech is as long as he has the same opinion.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Hmmm. The question is: will Mastodon comply will all those privacy breaches, censorship measures and governmental control backdoors?

Today it's about "fighting terrorism", tomorrow it's about deleting information on vaccine side-effects and the day after that it's whatever does not fit in the government agenda. Think our allies in Saudi Arabia etc.
