Thanks Brodie, I love this video! From the good old times a few years into working at #Canonical. #CUPS already used by every distro for several years, but not all apps sent jobs in PDF format yet, several, like OpenOffice (predecessor of #LibreOffice) still sent PostScript, standard of old #Unix times. And printers still needed drivers and some manufacturers made (usually closed-source) ones, and everyone with an integration more awkward than the other ...

1st: Have a look at cross-platform applications that are available on the current platform and Linux, and see if they are good for you (e.g. #LibreOffice, #Zotero, #Firefox, #Thunderbird, #Qoppa #PDFStudio, ...)

2nd: Is your computer/notebook and your printer etc. well supported by #Linux? Check the internet for it.

3rd: After switching: Look first for software in the distribution repositories and not on the websites of the projects. Install it from the distribution if available.


The second release candidate of #LibreOffice 24.2 is now available! This will be our next major update, with a new "year.month" version scheme – so it'll arrive in February 2024.
