I'm back at the Kielderhead Wildwood, five years on from when I first started working with them as artist in residence through VARC (Northumberland UK).

Five years ago, all that was on site was a lot of low-lying brush and thousands of trees in deer-guards.

In 2020, Shane Finan was selected to take part in the project ENTWINED, partnering with the Kielderhead Wildwood Project—a community-led initiative in northern England where over 30,000 native trees were planted in the Northumberland uplands.

I've just published a new page on my website documenting the last 3 months on an art residency exploring fire through the plant aiteann (gorse) and its relationship to sitka spruce: shanefinan.org/VAP/15_aiteann.…

This was part of the international research project investigating wildfires called FIRECULT. For the project, I created charcoal and made new drawings, made work with fire, and created two new video artworks.
