Wow! What a close-up 🤩 It also kinda looks like something small in close-up.

aaah. it was at 2/7? Somehow I thought it was mosre recently.

Yeah, I reckon it'd be cool if someone's keeping a track of "social media world" events vs crazy Fediverse surges.

Unless I've missed one, the previous surge began around 14th June, I think in line with Reddit going belly-up? mastodon.social/@mastodonuserc…

We made these by special request some time ago but Disability Pride month seemed like the perfect time to share them. We say it a lot but it's worth repeating, anyone can do science

I only discovered the #fediverse this week because I stopped being able to conveniently access reddit.

Love the concept, still adapting to the execution.

This will probably only reach the void but: is there a community for professional chemists or laboratory workers like r/chempros or r/labrats?

in reply to Optimoose

let me know if you find more lab tech folks! I think it's an important group to form community with.

Asteroid City, meet #AsteroidDay.

The cast of the movie had a few questions for us about OSIRIS-REx, a @NASASolarSystem mission traveling #ToBennuAndBack to return an asteroid sample to Earth this September. nasa.gov/osiris-rex/

Wake up, babe. @NASAWebb dropped a new infrared image of Saturn.

On June 25, the space telescope detected the planet’s faint moons and looked at its icy rings. Methane gas in Saturn’s atmosphere absorbs light, so it appears darker here. go.nasa.gov/3r97xD0

#OTD in 1967, Robert H. Lawrence was chosen for the MOL program: the first African-American selected as an astronaut for a U.S. space program. Tragically, he was killed in an accident before going to space.

X marks the spot!

For #AsteroidDay, check out this Hubble image, which shows the aftermath of a suspected collision between two asteroids. This led to the bizarre X-shaped object seen here, at the head of a comet-like trail of material.

Of course Saturn brought its ring light 🪐

Webb took its first near-infrared look at Saturn on June 25. The planet appears dark at this wavelength, as methane gas in its atmosphere absorbs sunlight — but its icy rings stay bright! Learn more: go.nasa.gov/3XtQ5Fr

Just checking in! 👀

Hubble sometimes checks in on our galactic neighbors, like the one featured in this #HubbleFriday view.

Known as ESO 174-1, this galaxy contains a bright cloud of stars, and a faint, meandering tendril of dark gas and dust: go.nasa.gov/46oEnjv
