You know how hard it is being a creator some times? When even the /r/steamdeck reddit mods remove a video posted by a fan, with no reasoning.

*sigh*

It was my video countering the PCGamesN piece on Steam Deck needing exclusives....

This is a upload of a live playthrough of #JupiterHell back seated by its creator and #DoomRL maker Kornel Kisielewicz.

Great conversation and some fun cheesy gameplay. I skip a whole boss and half a level in this run. 😁

Beware of Steam Deck SCAM sites, and don't fall for it like JSAUX did.

youtu.be/wKZ3k2zutBo

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I should point out, JSAUX haven't even given a public statement of a "woops we partnered with a clear scam site" they just removed their retweet to hide what happened and not even a little "thanks for stopping us looking like fools".
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

i mean... jsaux was just another amazon keysmash brand name who happened to luck into the "amazon's choice" slot for "steam deck dock" and have been frantically trying to learn how a brand name should act.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up selling their stuff through that website anyway

JSAUX, popular Steam Deck accessory brand just retweeted their partnership with a pretty clear scam webshop that sells cutprice Steam Decks that apparently get ordered via Valve. Suuuure it does 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

New protest tactic for activists in authoritarian countries: blank sheets of paper. "It is a passive-aggressive protest against censorship, a sarcastic performance of compliance that signals defiance." nytimes.com/2022/12/21/magazin…
in reply to kottke.org

Not *so* new. The Velvet Revolution that brought down the communist government in late '89 was famous for its silence: hundreds of thousands of citizens gathering but, for much of the time, *saying* nothing. No slogans, no banners, just presence.

It's the best example I know of to explain an idea well-known among the Euro lefts but almost unknown in the US: not a noisy "protest" or a contentious "demonstration," but a less specified, more fluid *manifestation*. In the US we'd really benefit from this kind of conceptual freedom.

There are countless other examples of the political power of ~silence. Just ask any subaltern...

He reviewed a single by my now elderly aunt for this series and said the most spiteful, snarky things for laughs — including comments about her appearance, not just the music. We literally had to figure out how to keep my aunt from seeing it as it would have destroyed her. So screw this guy.

Just a reminder that instead of crediting creators whose videos they pinch, GPD would rather block you when you bring it to light. Stay classy GPD.

gamingonlinux.com/2022/04/gpd-…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Didn't know GPD does this too. I thought Ambernic was alone. I guess these companies can't handle criticism, just like their government.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

OH yeah. They make some interesting devices, but their marketing team is EXTREMELY petty. I've heard similar about Anbernic, but it seems somewhat common among several of the Chinese OEMs. They're not above trash talking in public and blacklisting channels that don't give their products glowing reviews.

Art showing sword stabbing and smoking.

Did the #sixfanarts challenge around christmas last year, and had a blast. Considering firing up a new one over the next few days.

Anyway, here's the one from last year.

A man getting stabbed

6 fanarts, second one being Sephiroth from FFVII.
While I prefer 5, 6 and 9 to 7, I can't deny drawing Sephy getting a bit of his own medicine was pretty fun.

#fanart #ff7 #finalfantasy #sephiroth #art #MastoArt

in reply to Dadaph🇧🇻

6 fanarts. Third one is She-ra, the Princess of Power herself.
I've heard good stuff about the new show, but I haven't seen it yet, so I went for the good old 1985 original version, the one I know and love as I grew up with it.
She-ra is always a delight to draw!

I am so excited! I have made a pledge for a LapPi 2.0 100% DIY laptop! I heard about it hours after they made the announcement, because I put myself on the mailing list. I believe I was the fifteenth person to put in money. I checked today to see how they are doing and they have made ten times more than the amount in pledges they original requested! I think some people have put in money for more than one laptop.

Scheduled posts!

Another feature that exists on the Fediverse!

Again, not on Mastodon, but it's available on Friendica:

1. Compose message
2. Pick your date and time
3. Submit
4. View scheduled message

Once scheduled, it will be visible throughout the Fediverse, including on Mastodon.

in reply to Chris Trottier

The problem with depending on 3rd party apps for Mastodon features is that should Mastodon change their API -- and they could -- the feature could break.

All the better to have native support for the feature.

Which I'm sure might happen eventually.

in reply to Chris Trottier

That's not how our API works... We don't break stuff randomly. Not on purpose, anyway. You're safe to use 3rd party apps...
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron Thanks for the assurance! This is something many developers of 3rd party apps fear when building new innovations.

Anyone who built for Twitter circa 2010 can tell you stories of livelihoods instantly lost.

in reply to Chris Trottier

Yes. Mastodon was built on the API-first principle. We didn't even have official apps until 2021. In the end, there is no way for the official apps to use any functions that a third-party app couldn't also use.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron

This tool is nice, although I want to set up my own version.

Great to take keeping the API stable seriously. I've been burned by that. Not only anything important, just hobby stuff with RSS for train times that used twitter.

Literally put me off programming for a year.

Toot v17.5 has been released!

toot.to/

This was meant to be the translation release, but the only bigger feature that made it in was selecting language when posting, as that feature turned out to be way more complicated to get right than I expected. Still not sure it's quite right, so let me know how it works out for you!

Other than that, this release has mainly bugfixes, and an experimental ability to select text in toots after you open them.
