No, that was ME! I walked a half mile to and from the school bus stop. I had to cross a cow paddock with an electric fence to get there. During the winter my siblings and I would joke about "land mines". These were cowpats covered by fresh snow.

Quite a blast from the past to see how things have changed.

The empty lot on the corner is now an apartment building, as is the old supermarket across the street. Small businesses in the neighborhood have changed.

The house where we lived (until about 1971) was repainted and has a picket fence.

The grammar school I attended now has a gate in front of the schoolyard.

in reply to Muse

@Richard I hadn't thought of that! I just checked from Craig's Hill to the high school where the buses were for taking me to Hebler (Ellensburg had more than one primary school even in the 60s), I would have been walking a little less than .7 miles. So, not quite 3/4 but a bit more than .5 miles.

Quite a blast from the past to see how things have changed. The railway track where we used to tape pennies in order to squash them, is now a walking track.

You know all the random unforced tech layoffs are just labor disorganizing, right?

That's it. That's all they are. They're making us play musical chairs with our jobs to keep us from ever building enough trust to organize. Their ideal outcome is a labor pool that's too traumatized and reactive to act collectively.

Just pushing everyone into a scarcity mindset on purpose. It's the whole US economy writ small.

Just a note, it's not actual SteamOS on that AYENEO, as they confirmed to me it's actually a modified HoloISO: gamingonlinux.com/2024/01/ayan… @KyleOrl

I would love to see them optimize and fix the Linux version once the game is in full release.

Edit: Decided to relaunch the game today using the Linux native version and it worked great! I'm so stoked to play this now!

Would never play Elden Ring, but it's nice to know that anti-cheat systems are finally beginning to adopt Linux. Maybe that'll reach the ears of Freestyle 2: Street Basketball devs? 🤔

Seems /r/linux Reddit may finally relax their "spamblog" rules:

So if you want to see posts from @gamingonlinux actually allowed, do comment on it. I can't, because their old CAP_NAME moderator hated me and perma banned me directly lol.

I didn’t hear about this project until you posted about it being taken down. I love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series so I’m really excited this is back up!

Good reminder to mirror a repo to your local git instance if you run one 😀

Honestly, why not make something like in the spirit of Freedoom? But knowing the people that are TOO USED to TF2, they won't even try it because "the characters are different and the weapons are different" Blah blah blah, basically that.

Desmond Tutu’s long history of fighting for lesbian and gay rights

"Tutu’s equation of black civil rights and lesbian and gay rights is part of a broader South African narrative and dates back to the days of the apartheid struggle. Openly gay anti-apartheid activists, such as Simon Nkoli, had actively participated in the liberation movement, and had successfully intertwined the struggles against racism and homophobia.

"On the basis of this history, South Africa’s Constitution, adopted in 1996, included a non-discrimination clause that lists sexual orientation, alongside race and other characteristics. It was the first country in the world to do so, and Tutu had actively lobbied for it.

"A decade later, South Africa became the sixth country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage."

Is Free And Open Source Software The Best We Can Do? #Linux #OpenSource #YouTube youtu.be/ieFXnvsn3-g
in reply to Brodie Robertson

actually, I usually use "FLOSS" (Free, Libre, and OpenSource Software), because well, it makes you smile 😄
in reply to Brodie Robertson

free, possibly. Open source, definitemy not. What these miss is a non-commercial obligation. I know it would not be free by the current fsf definition, and I don't care.
