In case you haven't gotten sick of hearing me talk about this issue, I was on CBC-Yukon this morning talking about satellite pollution: cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-393…

The short version: satellites are super annoying for astronomy, but are completely terrifying for what they might do to the atmosphere as they deorbit in large numbers (and we don't actually know what they'll do - that's the scary part.)

in reply to Brodie Robertson

Honestly, even if they do this, I cannot see why linux distributions can't just make the alias themselves.

As you said, it is not an extra maintainance burden. Some distros already have aliases for stuff like 'ls -a'. It could either be in the default bash config, or an actual script redirecting to the new command.

in reply to Brodie Robertson

I actually really like openSUSE's solution to this where egrep and fgrep are just scripts:

#!/bin/sh
exec grep -E "$@"

#!/bin/sh
exec grep -F "$@"

Instead of @ntnsndr 's vision of doing an exit to community, we have this 😭😭😭😭

time to look for alternatives (well, I've been doing it for *years*, but now there's no choice)

No, that was ME! I walked a half mile to and from the school bus stop. I had to cross a cow paddock with an electric fence to get there. During the winter my siblings and I would joke about "land mines". These were cowpats covered by fresh snow.

Quite a blast from the past to see how things have changed.

The empty lot on the corner is now an apartment building, as is the old supermarket across the street. Small businesses in the neighborhood have changed.

The house where we lived (until about 1971) was repainted and has a picket fence.

The grammar school I attended now has a gate in front of the schoolyard.

in reply to Muse

@Richard I hadn't thought of that! I just checked from Craig's Hill to the high school where the buses were for taking me to Hebler (Ellensburg had more than one primary school even in the 60s), I would have been walking a little less than .7 miles. So, not quite 3/4 but a bit more than .5 miles.

Quite a blast from the past to see how things have changed. The railway track where we used to tape pennies in order to squash them, is now a walking track.

You know all the random unforced tech layoffs are just labor disorganizing, right?

That's it. That's all they are. They're making us play musical chairs with our jobs to keep us from ever building enough trust to organize. Their ideal outcome is a labor pool that's too traumatized and reactive to act collectively.

Just pushing everyone into a scarcity mindset on purpose. It's the whole US economy writ small.

I would love to see them optimize and fix the Linux version once the game is in full release.

Edit: Decided to relaunch the game today using the Linux native version and it worked great! I'm so stoked to play this now!

Would never play Elden Ring, but it's nice to know that anti-cheat systems are finally beginning to adopt Linux. Maybe that'll reach the ears of Freestyle 2: Street Basketball devs? 🤔
