NVIDIA 550.40.07 Beta driver released with fixes for VRR, Wayland and HDR work gamingonlinux.com/2024/01/nvidโ€ฆ

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Curiously, again, a fair few items in the changelog were from a previous version <_<

Not as bad as previous driver changelogs, were they entirely copy-pasted, but still a good few were in previous drivers.

Honestly, if this fixes the screen blanking VRR issue on Pascal GPUs, that's groundbreaking. My Benq EX2510 on a 1080 Ti would always go far below the refresh range on loading screens, so much so I had to do a custom EDID to up the VRR range to 55-144hz.

Palworld now the second ever game to hit 2 million concurrent players on Steam ๐Ÿคฏ
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Man that makes me feel so removed from the "mainstream".

It's like someone took everything i hate and made it a game:

- meaningless open world
- crafting
- repetitive survival gameplay
- grinding
- boring combat
- superfluous monster catching

I can't wrap my head around its success...

I really hope this extends to Mac as well. I'd like to be able to run it natively and not have to use Whisky.

Game Preservation Is More Important Than Ever #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/q3IdjYaXBgo
in reply to Brodie Robertson

nice conversation. I'm really into game preservation, so I bought a MiSTer FPGA a couple years ago because the cores are written to be as accurate as possible. I can hook it up to my CRT too, which reduces input lag and looks great. some of the cores have savestates, but most don't. I like that the cores accurately preserve the consoles in FPGA

in reply to hazelnot

@hazelnot i
agree completely, i honestly miss that phone a lot. the snapdragon 801 really let it down, since it overheated so badly, but there's something really appealing about those massive bezels.

i really don't like the modern phone design trend of rounded edges and camera holes. if i could have modern hardware and a better camera inside that z5, i'd switch back in a heartbeat.

I think co-op leader Janelle Orsi captures this point powerfully. See the slide at 15:00 here: youtube.com/watch?v=qQLCheXzyhโ€ฆ
in reply to Nathan Schneider

Co-op member shares, in the traditional context, are legal securities backed by the enforcement power of the state and a securities regime largely designed to protect wealth holders. We try to leverage those tools to build our communities nevertheless, but it is still reliance on compromised infrastructures. People trying to build healthy DAOs experience similar compromises (as well as distinct ones).

Born in 1896, biochemist Gerty Theresa Cori became the 1st woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (and the 3rd to win a Nobel Prize).

Cori faced gender discrimination & was marginalized for years. But she never gave up.

With her husband Carl, she discovered how glycogen is broken down & eventually stored as an energy source (aka the โ€œCori cycleโ€). They also identified the Cori ester. beckerexhibits.wustl.edu/womenโ€ฆ #HistoryRemix #science #history

Canonical's STEAM SNAP Is Too BROKEN For Valve #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/GMqAo_As1D0
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I am still coping, malding, and seething about Pop!_OS stopping the intermediate releases because it was the one distro that offered those without Canonical's BS

I stg if they don't resume after COSMIC is ready

in reply to Brodie Robertson

Honestly I kind of expected this. Maybe not issues to this extent, but I knew it would never be 1-1 compatible.

The snap system can be very inflexible when it comes to certain things like permissions or the way it operates. I remember having an issue with nextcloud server, I think it was trying to make it access something from the system. I found out that the sandbox around snaps can be pretty tight for system level resources. Steam probably has similar issues.
