Cultist Simulator gets much improved Steam Deck support gamingonlinux.com/2024/02/cultโ€ฆ

I really like the setting, writing and visuals. Just couldn't get into the gameplay, sadly. Maybe this time around...

I asked DALL-E to draw me a flowchart that explained how to make a decision. Look closely. This is spot on.

It's completely anecdotal, I know, but:
Last time I tried playing Stanley Parable, the 'native' Linux version just did not run for me.
Running the windows version using Proton, it ran flawlessly.
Basically, Proton is great, not sure why people have issues with "oh but it's not native so bla bla"

excited about our upcoming CHI paper [PDF being finalized soon] ... it turns out that programmers often draw a wide variety of ASCII diagrams in their code as a form of documentation and knowledge-sharing ... they're inline, checked-in with version control, stays with their code, and can express ideas that are hard to do in text alone

authy just moved their desktop app EOL date forward - authy desktop will cease to function on the 19th of march!

they have no official way of exporting your data (of course ๐Ÿ™ƒ), but there's an unofficial tool for getting your data out. i'll probably move to keepassXC to prevent something like this from happening again

Remember the new @mozilla CEO whose first action was to post a link to her Linkedin profile?

Some said I was harsh that we should let her the benefit of doubt.

So here are the first true actions: firing 60 people working on useless products to focus the company on its true mission.

The useless products?
- Relay (privacy, protection against spam)
- VPN (privacy)
- Mozilla.social (Mastodon)
- Monitor (privacy)

True mission to focus:
- AI (???)

You canโ€™t made that up

currently writing a mastodon bot thing in rust using megalodon

it is... a very okay API wrapper. for some reason it takes ownership of everything you pass into it in every API call, so you have to constantly clone string parameters, which is very much not in the vibe of rust.

i found elefren, which has a much nicer design and properly supports pagination (unlike megalodon), but it hasn't been updated in three years, and the upstream repo was deleted, so i can't really use that

i miss mastodon.py :blobsob:โ€‹

ok so apparently wasabi says you shouldn't use them if your egress exceeds your stored file size, and that if it does, they reserve the right to "suspend your service" (?!)

but they also provide no way to check your egress on the dashboard

so i looked up how to check, and found this: knowledgebase.wasabi.com/hc/enโ€ฆ

what the fuck, wasabi

in reply to Lynnesbian

is there any reason to use wasabi over backblaze?
just curious to hear experiences :neocat_cute:
in reply to december flower

@likeazir back when i set my instance up, almost everyone who was self-hosting ended up going with wasabi because they were really cheap

looking at backblaze's website, they seem to be about the same price as wasabi was back then, so either they used to cost more, or people just didn't know about them, which seems unlikely given how big a name they are

who knows :blobcatgooglyshrug:โ€‹

doesn't work on sciops.net... I wonder what my site is doing wrong
in reply to khm

mhmm, your instance is not emitting the website verification API it seems like. Can you validate a url in your profile? if you go in settings?
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

so it needs a rel="me" link on the website AND there's some kind of API contact that has to happen on the ActivityPub side? Almost certainly unsupported by snac2, if so. I thought the rel="me" link was enough. Nobody seems to care to document any of this...
in reply to khm

@khm I.. I.. can't read typescrit.
github.com/tvler/streetpass
@khm
in reply to khm

@khm afaics, snac2 also has to provide a rel=me link to your site to make the link bidirectional. Not sure if you can hack it in somehow (do you have access to the html representation of your profile?)
@khm
in reply to sirjofri

yeah, could it be just a matter of adding the website in your profile?
This entry was edited (1 year ago)
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

@khm both links must be rel=me links, and link to the other side respectively

New change landing in Mastodon for Android soon! In user testing, people have expressed confusion over โ€œwhy are all the handles so long?โ€

We're presenting handles on profile pages in a new style, with the username and server separated. Tapping the server will show you more details, along with a neat easter egg animation when you tap the rows.

@grishka did a phenomenal job on this animation ๐Ÿ™

in reply to sam henri gold

very neat change! I am curious though - Is there any special handling for when multiple people are using the same handle within a single thread?
in reply to Hazelnoot

@hazelnoot Yes, when more than one person with the same username is mentioned in a post, the mentions render with the domain part visible.

What's that? A game without a season pass and $1000 of DLC AND it released on GOG without any DRM AND it's doing good? That should be impossible according to the "gaming industry" at large!

I love how much of a middle finger to the corporate mouthpieces this game is.
