Is anyone setting up a means for Reddit users to aggregate the stock voting power many will be receiving through an entity that can act in users’ interests?

(1) great idea, wonder if RH's story would have been different had this been done when they did this lo so many years ago (2) do we know what percentage of the overall stock pool has been allocated this way?

Sometimes marketing is all about waiting long enough for your audience to forget about the 80s and 90s.

I love how ALDI celebrates this brilliant new design that saves 40% of plastic by removing the plastic lid.

Apple spent a combined $400 million on Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon not to win any awards or break even at the box office.

No wonder they doubled the price of Apple TV+ within a year. Prestige content is an expensive hobby.

@Adam Blewett i think she was riding on "strange" in the early days - a slightly tamer version of Grimes, perhaps (or maybe i was just listening to the two at the time, so they merged) - noice, differen, unusual ;))

we're losing the race of live research before it is gradually and necessarily displaced by forensics.

we should be deep-freezing whole-culture biomes while we still have the chance.

I can also write posts in the microblog and automatically crosspost them to Twitter/Mastodon/Bluesky, while keeping the original post on my site. Like this (mollywhite.net/micro/entry/202…)!

Thank you. I'm finally going to do this now.

How do you feel about not having platform-specific mentions?

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr sweet! is there a readme 5-min-install type thing? If its quick i might move to something like this...
in reply to Nathan Schneider

i actually do have platform-specific mentions! i built a little extension to the RTE i'm using where I can enter in a person's social handles — as well as personal website and/or Wikipedia page — and then the crossposter uses the appropriate handle depending on which network it's going to
in reply to Molly White

@ntnsndr (not the clearest example because I edited the social media text before crossposting, but you get the gist I hope)

Funny thing I've noticed due to this change is that I am no longer able to go below the stock power limit on my RX 6600 XT, but you are, as far as I know, able to reduce the max power limit by about 10% compared to stock on Windows. This is why it's best to test those critical changes before trying to push them into the kernel or other serious projects, especially if you make claims like that this "matches the Windows driver behavior" lmao

'Complect' (2024)

A new interactive #art installation based on crustose lichen and their interconnectivity.

The drawn lines are weaved from conductive wire connected to Raspberry Pi Picos. They all link together, and the parts speak to one another, with electricity flowing through their protozoan boundaries following their own rhythms and patterns, changing the lights and shadows.

Based on research from a residency at Artlink Fort Dunree (2022-23).

The best news I've seen about "AI" lately: People have wisely concluded that these systems are untrustworthy.

no it's great! Varvara has 4 arms and sometimes people forget to draw the extra arms. Varvara and Uxn are in excellent company!

Saw a bug in #Helldivers 2 where a player had their arms stuck out the whole game, so they basically did a Jack Sparrow run across the map.

Wish I recorded earlier + more, because it was so funny.

Australia’s chief scientist takes on the journal publishing monopoly

“Journal publishers have one of the highest profit margins of any industry, taking in an estimated $20bn US a year.

Five major players control more than half of the market, led by Elsevier, with a profit margin of nearly 40% – in excess of Apple, Netflix, Google and Amazon.”

The 'ten-minute edit' I did to finish a package on the morning we switched to our video server for playback was because I'd spent 20 years editing, progressing from an inexperienced novice to proficiency on a new non-linear system.

The photographer who couldn't complete the package hadn't practiced with the new system/program, even though we had on-site instructors working with us for over a month.

Welp, it’s early March in the Midwest & the ticks sure seem to be enjoying the warm temperatures.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

One of the many reasons why I take climate change personally. I HATE ticks!
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I think that needs a content warning!
With a mild winter in the UK we fear another bad tick year. Absolute horrors. We love to walk fluffy bear in the woods, but have to stay on wide paths in a tick summer.
