The word 'welcome' may be interpreted as 'well-come', like 'well-received' and 'well-deserved'.
However, it stems from a Germanic word meaning "desired guest".
Perhaps under the influence of French 'bienvenu' ("welcome", literally "well-come"), the perception and the form of the English word and its Germanic cognates were altered. The infographic shows how.

In collaboration with Harrison Consoles, happy to see the release of Harrison LiveTrax, the latest DAW in the Ardour family. LiveTrax is a DAW focused on the needs of live/front-of-house work. Not exactly unrelated to Waves Tracks Live from 2015, it has nearly a decade of improvements to the codebase and includes several additional features that we felt FOH folks would benefit from.

To be fair to mozilla it should be noted that "Privasy-preserving Attribution" does nothing when the user has opted out of telemetry already. They just forgot to update the checkbox correctly. In a future release this will be shown correctly to the user.
Most of the drama could have been avoided when people would actually check the source code...

in reply to Muse • • •Was there ever a "making of". I would be very curious to know what rehearsals were like for the production. Also, did they go through this more than once before settling on a take as the final movie?
I never understand why directors frequently by-pass rehearsals. They talk about "freshness" of their actors's performances, but a good actor can perform The Mousetrap hundreds of times and still make it fresh for a live theatre audience.

in reply to Muse • • •During my decade and a half of work backstage I usually ended up in the one job that required my eyes to be on the actors on the stage for the duration of every performance: lights. Even the stage manager can look somewhere else. So I watched shows evolve and change from the stage of late rehearsal, tech, previews, opening night, and the rest of the run.
My own rules as an audience member are "Don't go to previews", "don't go to opening night [the actors are too tired]", "don't go to matinees, particularly when 'blue hairs' are attending en masse [yes, for some reason many older women dye their hair with chemicals that becomes blue and quite apparent when back lit by the stage lights]. I've generally found that Thursday and Saturday nights are the best times to attend.
(Most people don't realize that on opening night the director hands control of the show over to the stage manager, modulo perhaps some "tune up' visits by the director during the run. It is the stage manager that tries to hold the show from evolving off the rails - it is a greatly under appreciated job.)

Anyway, it is quite interesting how a show evolves, how the actors get new ideas, how they get tired or energized, and how the set and props slowly erode. (We had one show that had an actual lawn on stage - it had to be watered - by the end of the run it was a very sad and sorry lawn, it stank, and water had leaked through and damaged the underfloor - the actors worked with that ever-worsening lawn as the run progressed.)

in reply to Muse • • •@Karl Auerbach My productions were all profit-share independent theatre. So, even though people were getting paid, nobody was getting paid a lot. Australia and Ireland tie for the OECD countries worst at supporting their arts, followed by...the US. This meant it wasn't always easy getting crew.
I had a comedian friend who asked very nicely if he could be involved in one of my shows. When he asked most roles were already filled. I did have one role left. He is blind, but after some thought I realised he could do it, because really good listening would make it work as well.
He became in charge of the lighting.
He sat next to the sound engineer, who if anything went strange could quickly nudge the friend. Nothing did go wrong. When the music came up, the lighting came up. When he heard an actor say a line or move across the floor, he arranged different lighting. Later his experience became great material for his stand-up shows!
Karl Auerbach
in reply to Muse • • •@Muse - When I worked on shows I always refused to take a paycheck. Not that I was paid very much, I think that it was about $0.50/hour or something like that. Certainly not union scale.
(Now we just write checks - although a couple weeks back I helped move about 450 seats out from storage. Oh, my aching back!.)
