1972: A patch of dirt ➡️ Today: Preeminent air and space museum

#50YearsAgo today, officials broke ground on the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC! Have you visited @airandspace lately to see its many space and aeronautical artifacts from NASA history?
#NASAhistory

in reply to NASA

Yes! Went there within a year orcso of opening. It's terrific!

With its trip underway, @NASA_Orion is equipped with 16 cameras that will collect valuable data, document mission events, and share a unique perspective of our journey to the Moon.

Trans journalist Parker Molloy criticized journa.host for failing to moderate transphobia: journa.host/@parker/1093663371…

Their mods responded by suspending her.

I am beginning by silencing journa.host, and I intend to upgrade this to a suspension if they don't shape up. I encourage journalists there to move servers, and if Jawns follow journalists there, you may stop seeing them.

I'll try not to discuss #fediblock too much, but this is a tough mod decision I want Jawns.club members to know about.

Going to show a little vulnerability here and share this work-in-progress.

I'm trying to put what I'd like to have as a purpose for my instance in writing.

It really sounds like a pipe dream to be honest, and I think an instance's purpose should be so clear that it can be put in a single sentence.

Does this sound like something that would be possible, interesting and doable to you?

"Es decir, la resistencia no es solo persistencia; la resistencia, en la forma en que lo estoy pensando, siempre incluye perspectiva, el medio por el cual podemos contextualizar la duda y, al darle contexto, desplazarla un poco, despejando así el lugar nuevamente para la fe sacudida. Quizás la mejor manera de pensar en la resistencia es como una fusión de perspectiva y voluntad."

"Which is to say, stamina is not just persistence; stamina, in the way that I’m thinking of it, always includes perspective, the means by which we can contextualize doubt and, in giving it context, displace it somewhat, thereby clearing room again for shaken faith. Maybe the best way to think of stamina is as a fusion of perspective and will."

Here's a handy #Mastodon tip. On the Advanced interface, you can search for a hashtag. Pin that search, and then you can expand it to include 4 additional hashtags and also add some filters!

Today marks our namesake Edwin Hubble’s birthday! 🎂

Our telescope is named after him, and so is the Hubble Constant – the rate at which our universe expands.

excellent video, I knew Hubble's observations were responsible for knowing the expansion but never heard of the Hubble constant, thanks!

CSS class' "icon" property "height" causing distance beween two lines in profile views

The said #CSS class .icon has a property height: 48px which with current HTML structure causes a distance between two lines when I view a remote profile (view: /contact/X or a post (view: /display/X):

I'm sure, removing height from the said CSS class won't fix it in the long run but maybe checking the HTML/div structure would.

mastodon.art has defederated from journa.host . There are a few problematic reasons, like scouring people's content to use and quote without permission, but most notably, they've used a tool developed by kiwifarms (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi_Far…) to scan instance blocklists . The fedi culture generally is very anti-tabloid-journalism and obviously there are concerns about privacy, but using a tool developed by known harassers for the sole purpose of harassing is over the line.

Former Anti-Abortion Leader Alleges Another Supreme Court Breach

Years before the leaked draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, a landmark contraception ruling was disclosed, according to a minister who led a secretive effort to influence justices.

in reply to Muse

I know... this all goes back to the Reagan Era, but never this bad. Judges of the Supreme court MUST be held to the standards other judges are in regards to recusing themselves from cases that they have a personal interest or connection to. That is the Minimum that needs to be put in place.

Book Review: Be Creative: Making A Living in the New Culture Industries by Angela McRobbie

In Chapter Two, ‘Unpacking the Politics of Creative Labour’, McRobbie examines conceptually the idea of creativity by dissecting ‘the romance of being creative’ as a new form of governmentality; or, how young creative professionals believe in passion and happiness in the workplace as compensation for precarious jobs. In the current labour market, for example, the role of unions is diminished and has been replaced by skills of ‘self-management’ to achieve success in an uncertain market of creative labour; this entrepreneurial or start-up mentality is part of the professionalisation of being creative and a marker of middle-class status. This chapter is key to understanding McRobbie’s perspective on the ideological role of creativity in the changes to the cultural economy in the UK since the late 1990s.

“The risk is that [a Twitter collapse] might lead to a dash towards popularity on some other platform, attempting to reproduce the status quo ex, ante rather than taking this ‘social crash’ as an opportunity to reflect on what went wrong [in academic online cultures] and how we might avoid the same thing happening in future.”

What I find most hopeful & intriguing about this moment is the potential to be intentional about scales of communication — to celebrate something other than celebrity academia, to recognize the challenge & value of curating small conversation, to be skeptical of calls to “change the world.”

The server octodon.social is not one of the servers recommended for new users through joinmastodon.org or our official apps; when you find a server to join on your own, I cannot guarantee what kind of experience you will have.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

Thanks. So basically if you join an instance not listed on the main website as an “approved” or “blessed” one you’re taking your chances? That’s important to stress for new users especially given the massive Twitter influx.

@Friendica Support I want to delete a post which was accidentially saved to a folder. How to do it? Only thing I see is a pop-up saying that I will be deleting the post, but no button or anything else to be clicked. See screenshots: #1 Firefox on Android, #2 Firefox on Windows.

TIA

in reply to ITMC GmbH

@ITMC GmbH To remove a post from its saved folder, you need to open its conversation page. Meaning from the Saved Folder search, you have to tap/click “View in context” or the equivalent in German (probably “Im Zusammenhang betrachten”). In this context the Saved Folder name will appear as a label below the post body, alongside a cross icon. Tap/click the cross icon to remove the post from the Saved Folder.
in reply to Hypolite Petovan

@Hypolite Petovan Thanks a lot. Told the user and it worked. But this process isn't very intuitiv, isn't it? Suggestion: Clarify, what "View in context" means. I.e.: "For any action on this post view it context." with "view it in context being the link as it is right now.
in reply to ITMC GmbH

I think you can also click the time. ("posted 2 days ago") then you get the display page. (like a 'single post view') there you should be able to delete, too
in reply to ITMC GmbH

@Hypolite Petovan But, I think, the main problem is the selection box. Why is it there, if it isn't enabling any action at this place on this post? 😉
