#SteamDeck OS update fixes factory reset, Forza Horizon 5 OS update in Preview gamingonlinux.com/2022/12/stea…

Anyone else had the Steam Deck waking itself from sleep issue too?

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

no in all honesty my experiences with it thus far exceeded my expectations by a lot. For a device with a large smartphone battery it's gaming performance was great, and other than the occasional fiddling with resolutions on the tv, and (few) games that don't run at all, it's been awesome.

it's strange. I noticed that it was doing it last night after I downloaded the update. Hasn't done it at all today though.

Hey folks!
I have some important news concerning the crossposter instance running over at crossposter.masto.donte.com.br

Please see write.as/renatolond/timeline-f… for full information and boost for reach!

TL;DR: you cannot connect new accounts to crossposter.masto.donte.com.br starting today. By the end of January, the tool will be shut off.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

ok. After some playing around, I have two games I have been playing that behave differently.

Pikuniku was the one I was trying to get to work with my kiddo. When it said press Y, we had to press X. This config switched the buttons around, and the labels didn't change, so this worked.

Spiderman was wrong in the same way, but it also shows the xbox logos and style of buttons. When I change this setting, the buttons swap, and the labels also swap. So that was really confusing.

Something important for people to be aware of when replying to others here in the Fediverse.

When looking at a post, you will only see the replies that your sever know of.

If you click on the "three dots" menu and "Open original page", you will see many more replies (but not necessarily all).

Don't be a "Reply Guy" by mistake! Before giving out your great wisdom, do this small check to see if anyone else already had the same idea.

It's cool that @Gargron is rejecting funding from VC firms.

But this is all the more reason why Mastodon needs donations.

And not just Mastodon—everyone who's building free and open source Fediverse apps.

arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20

in reply to Shelenn Ayres

I also wonder why Mastodon doesn't start a for-profit that's owned by the non-profit. Would give them a more consistent avenue for funding.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@shelenn If you ever want to talk to me regarding this, I have some potential ideas on how to make this work for you.

You know I've been banging the drum on getting you funding 🙂

in reply to Chris Trottier

@shelenn

Is there a community foundation set up in the US that is fundraising for Fediverse, Mastodon, or any of the other Fediverse projects? There is a lot of opportunity for US corporate, foundation, and donor advised dollars toward projects like these - as well as a lot of wealthy US donors that only make large donations to 501c3s!

in reply to oz3mze

@oz3mze @Eugen Rochko @Chris Trottier One problem with that is requiring 501c3 status is cumbersome and not free. Most open-source projects are privately funded by companies using the software or self-funded. In rare cases large foundations may provide funding but then they control dev direction which is not always desirable - and certainly not in the case of the various competing projects in the Fediverse. You can't fund/not fund based on adherence to software terms without entering into legal risks further increasing costs.
in reply to Shelenn Ayres

@shelenn
Im curious because my background is in foundation and nonprofit management specifically in grow/scaling startups. When I read the arsTechnica article I was intrigued and was curious if the people/projects behind Fediverse are interested in exploring setting up a community foundation. This removes alot of the redtape involved in funding projects not incorporated in the US as well as eliminates funding restrictions that would likely be where dev direction comes from
in reply to oz3mze

@oz3mze @shelenn Mastodon is already a registered non-profit--but in Germany. I don't think there's a reason to move it to the US.
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@shelenn
Wasn't suggesting moving Mastondon to the US. Was asking if a community foundation was set up for the Fedi ecosystem in the US (or any connected to a US 501c3 for that matter). Asking because I have seen the community foundation model work as a funding model. US donors also dont receive tax breaks for donations to international not-for-profits so having a partner or subsidiary that is a 501c3 for processing US donations can be useful
