Why Didn't KDE Takeover Linux Instead Of GNOME? #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/fNbk8PMi3Sw
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I mean, not to start a war but KDE is a thousand times better including their apps like KDE-CONNECT etc.
in reply to Brodie Robertson

what do you mean that Qt isn't proprietary? From what i understand it's released in both commercial and GPL/LGPL (with Qt special exception)... this, and the trolls from trolltech, is probably the origin of all the confusion...

It's a really good idea to have a pinned introduction post saying a bit about your account, maybe including some relevant images, audio or video attachments if possible.

Pinned posts are automatically backfilled, which means even servers that have never seen your account before will display your pinned introduction, and your timeline will never look blank.

For info on how to pin posts see here: fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-postโ€ฆ

This yearโ€™s record low is 130,000 square kilometers (50,000 square miles) below the one reached in 2022, a difference that is about the size of New York state. It marks the second time that scientists observed the ice shrinking below 2 million square kilometers.

Sea ice around Antarctica reached its lowest extent on Feb. 21, 2023, at 1.79 million square kilometers (691,000 square miles).

This is the lowest extent ever observed since the start of the satellite record in 1979.

The seemingly well-meaning usage of the term "culture wars" is "a misuse of the concept of culture, creating a false equivalence between marginalized groups and those who would harm or eliminate them in a quest for ever more power". kottke.org/23/03/the-so-calledโ€ฆ

I donโ€™t quite agree with this framing. I prefer Tim Urbanโ€™a low ring vs high rung and there is a lot of low rung behavior in both sides of the political spectrum. sloww.co/whats-our-problem-timโ€ฆ

Replying to all the random individuals that seem to think that Iโ€™m โ€œendorsingโ€ one of the Fediverse products over any other, and seem to be making a big deal over #akkoma vs #mastodon etc.

Thatโ€™s not the case. Iโ€™m actually a horrible MIS person, and I would never want to maintain my own server. Iโ€™m a programmer for chrissake!

The same way you should fear me if I hold a soldering iron, you should be very very nervous if I were to do any server management.

So all credit (or blame) for the choice of Fediverse platform goes to @monsieuricon, who maintains kernel.org and just made it really easy for me to try this out.

โ€ฆ and on a similar note: not only am I not much of a MIS person, Iโ€™m also not much of a social networking person.

I foresee a lot of disappointment in the future of any followers of this account ๐Ÿ”ฎ.
