Where are open networks heading?

I had an inspiring day yesterday at Ahoy!, predominantely a ATProto developer meeting in Hamburg.

Some thoughts (and a pic by @samvie which I was very happy to meet)...

@crosswalk It's not quite straightforward, as you need to use the terminal to install VeraCrypt in Linux Mint (and, I assume, a distro like Ubuntu as well, as that serves as Mints basis).

This guide is reasonably clear: linuxcapable.com/how-to-instal…

I've been a Windows user for a long time but I've been using Mint for quite a while as well. I've learned a lot and especially not to be afraid of the terminal window when it's needed to get things done 😆

‘Reeks of Eugenics’: RFK Jr.’s Autism ‘Registry’ Draws Nazi Germany Comparisons

ASAN, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, warned: “There is no indication that autistic people whose data is being taken would be afforded any say in whether their data is used or what it is used for. This raises significant moral, legal, and practical concerns. People have a right to decide what is done with data about their health. Unethical science is bad science.”

in reply to Muse

IIRC they said they want to find the families and give them damage awards (socialism!). I figure that's about as much vapor as the DOGE Dividend—but just enough to keep the families from carping about having their privacy invaded, til it's too late.

I am super extra glad that this aspect of my health does not exist for insurance purposes.

in reply to Muse

They want to gut the social safety net? We should return the favor.

Did you go to university or college? If you did, please take a look at the attached link, and if your institute of higher education isn't on the list, please write to them and encourage them to participate. THANK YOU! ❤

A Call for Constructive Engagement

"As leaders of America’s colleges, universities, and scholarly societies, we speak with one voice against the unprecedented government overreach and political interference now endangering American higher education. We are open to constructive reform and do not oppose legitimate government oversight. However, we must oppose undue government intrusion in the lives of those who learn, live, and work on our campuses. We will always seek effective and fair financial practices, but we must reject the coercive use of public research funding."

Have courage, be kind!

"This intersects with a soft form of cynicism about our fellow human beings. People underestimate how warm, open-minded, friendly, and trustworthy others are. We make these bleak assumptions about each other in the abstract when asked what “people” are like, and less so when interacting with real, flesh-and-blood humans. This means two things: On the dark side, cynical assumptions cause us to avoid the very social interactions that could make us happier. On the bright side, when we overcome inertia and take a leap of faith on other people, pleasant surprises are everywhere."

#Frostpunk1886 #Frostpunk #Gaming #UnrealEngine

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

It's really good city building game. It's not just a clone of other well established games but franchise with it's own ideas and original setting. That being said... It's a bit grim and depressing. Post-apocalyptic setting and hurdles thrown at the player can make you fill a little bit depressed. I know that other games of this type have some disasters to make their game little bit more interesting but this is different. So if you don't mind this kind of mood, go and play it.
