found the ui to be confusing. Mods wouldn't automatically download and install. Don't know if its electron based, but it had that bloated, unoptimized feeling of one.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's true, a lot of people on Linux reflexively respond to anything that looks like mass data surveillance and are terrified of that ever coming to Linux
@sandwich You could always swap distros, that's not really the concern. The concern is a well known distro leaning towards that route out of the box. The people most effected by Windows fuckery aren't the technical users it's those regular people who just use a computer as a tool not a hobby
You are right, and it's terrible. We need to get over this, because we need some data to help us make Linux a more viable alternative for more people faster, with the limited resources we have! The alternative is that everyone uses Windows/Mac and gets totally surveiled. The demand to keep Linux 100% pure from any kind of anonymous data collection just makes more people more surveiled.
@AggressiveHayBale I actually don't fully agree, I think it's biased towards the less technical users. The plan is to provide the toggle in the installation prompt which you have to select an option for before continuing. If you frame the data collection as a good thing it's easy to get the less technical users on board.
@AggressiveHayBale I'm looking towards an active selection "choose your camp" style, because being able to passively skip such an important decision as (not) sharing telemetry would be antithetical to the goal of improving on this data. 🤔🙈
it’s better. They are still less trustworthy than somebody like KDE for metrics.  The one change I would make is if the user on initial install says no the software is removed right then in there or there is a prompt to do so.  Maybe add it to a fedora welcome or support page where it can be reinstalled easily.
