Our guesses were pretty close!
The small ones are brown birch bolete. The bigger bolete remains a bit of a mystery. The blackening brittlegrill was correct (apparently they're edible but not great).

Some Chlorociboria aeruginascens, or Green Elfcup #mushrooms, for #FungiFriday
The mycelium of these guys contains a chemical called Xylindein, which stains wood a blue/green color. I find the blue wood fairly often, but this is only my second time seeing the actual mushrooms fruiting!

The conversion of forests to agricultural land is happening at a mind-boggling speed. Between 2015 and 2020, the rate of deforestation was estimated at around 10 million hectares every year.Palm Oil Detectives

Oat containers work pretty well for mushroom growing. Small enough to be manageable and good at keeping the moisture in.
I grew these mushrooms in a cloth grow bag using only wood chips as the substrate. I thought that they would fruit in the top, but instead they actually fruited through the fabric in the bottom.
They struggled a bit due to the low humidity indoors, but I spray them with water several times a day, so I will be able to harvest something.

We sterilized some compostable paper, tea leaves, coffee grounds, etc in a pot, let it cool, and then mixed in oyster mushroom mycelia. A few weeks later, we have over 500 g!
Oyster mushroom spawn are coming along nicely. Having worked with other fungi, I am surprised how quickly these take. Must be a major reason why these are such popular mushrooms to grow.
Hopefully these will be a nice winter crop, maybe even something I can use to supplement the composting.
Hidden inside every growing hypha lies a microscopic powerhouse — the #Spitzenkörper.
It’s not just a blob at the fungal tip — it’s the traffic controller, architect, and GPS of fungal growth. 🍄
This video will uncover how this mysterious vesicle cluster orchestrates the very architecture of life beneath our feet.
