Latest comic: Electric vehicles gone wrong

I'm fine with the soft, whirring spaceship sounds that some EVs emit as a safety feature to alert people that they're moving. The new Dodge Charger EV comes with a deafening 126 dB roar, which is just plain obnoxious.

But a lot fewer on the left are willing to buy Tesla's because of Elon, so it may cancel out. I really have difficulties justifying owning a Tesla with my family (we bought it in 2019 when it wasn't clear yet what a dolt Elon turned out to be).

And it is a good car. I would still recommend it.

"An #EV is a good way to cut carbon #emissions, but so, it turns out, is a four-day workweek. Do them both, and a thousand other things—and fast—and we might have a shot. "

The first thing a good solar installer does is to make you beef up the insulation in your home: that way you need less solar on the roof.

S: build public transit and bike lanes first, then electrify the remaining cars.

Carbon emissions per 1 ton of steel = 1.8 tons

Not only will replacing combustion engines with electric motors still be carbon intensive, mining for battery minerals will devastate the landscape.

We need public transportation!

We did a family road trip across Canada in our Hyundai Kona EV last summer of 10,000mi/16,000km and I figured we generated around 630kg of CO2, mostly in still coal fired Alberta and Saskatchewan. That’s about 0.04kg/km. I would imagine the average CO2 intensity of electricity in the USA would be larger. But hopefully in time it will get better. Would love to do this! We visited or drove through 9 Canadian National Parks. 😀

EVs (alongside gas cars) thrived in the 1900 to 1919 period before the fateful choice to our climate of favoring internal combustion.

In fact, there were even hybrids!

The electric or gas Wood's Queen Victoria. Made in Chicago. Electrics were cleaner cars w/ fewer mechanical parts and commonly were marketed to women.
