Latest comic: Electric vehicles gone wrong

I'm fine with the soft, whirring spaceship sounds that some EVs emit as a safety feature to alert people that they're moving. The new Dodge Charger EV comes with a deafening 126 dB roar, which is just plain obnoxious.

hey you know what's really cool is that there's a website that hosts a hell of a lot of official car manufacturer service/repair guides.

super handy, especially if you are inclined to occasionally do more involved maintenance on your car. Also just good to know what your mechanic is talking about sometimes!

PSA: To avoid dooring or killing cyclists when you exit a vehicle, please consider adopting "the Dutch Reach," which is using your hand farthest from the door to open it. This forces you into a position that allows a better view of bicycles approaching from behind. And, of course, first look, *then* open door. Teach your kids, too. #cycling #safety #driving #cars #psa https://www.fraserhealth.ca/news/2021/Sep/do-the-dutch-reach-to-protect-cyclists-and-other-road-users

Carbon emissions per 1 ton of steel = 1.8 tons

Not only will replacing combustion engines with electric motors still be carbon intensive, mining for battery minerals will devastate the landscape.

We need public transportation!

If your city couldn’t avoid making a massive city-damaging mistake in the first place, do the next best thing — remove the mistake, and repair your city. Like #Utrecht, Netherlands did with its central area river, then freeway, then river again.

Have you seen this one before? A short history of traffic engineering, via #copenhagenize. Manufactured car dependency takes a lot of forms, including how easy or hard we make it to get from A to B using different modes/methods. This is about vision, space prioritization, design, budgeting, operations/maintenance, etc. A deliberate result of skewed priorities.

EVs (alongside gas cars) thrived in the 1900 to 1919 period before the fateful choice to our climate of favoring internal combustion.

In fact, there were even hybrids!

The electric or gas Wood's Queen Victoria. Made in Chicago. Electrics were cleaner cars w/ fewer mechanical parts and commonly were marketed to women.

Here Miss Sidonia Furth of Seattle drives w/ a woman companion in Seattle. Ad from dealer that also sold Wintons & Caddys
