Inspired might be pushing it a bit eh? MineClone2 as the name suggests really is a clone of early Minecraft, although this is free and open source powered by the Minetest game engine.
For players who like vanilla Minecraft, #Mineclone could really be almost indistinguishable experience.
Feels like going back a couple of versions of the game (in terms of just not having a couple features that you are used to now).
With the current state of what Mojang do, there was no better time to try it. We have such a big MC Java modding community, that has 0 support from Mojang. Imagine if only 10% of them would join Minetest development.
