New Blog Alert: Diversity & Inclusion in #ResearchSoftware

https://urssi.us/blog/2023/10/26/diversity-and-inclusion-in-research-software-insights-from-an-international-workshop

Some fresh insights from an International Workshop at 2023 IEEE eScience Conference facilitated by the URSSI ‘Charting the course’ project (https://urssi.us/projects/policy/about/), based at NCSA @ UIUC, and supported by the Sloan Foundation.

The workshop served as a catalyst for a much-needed dialogue about advancing diversity in research software; we've got pieces of a roadmap at this point, albeit with a long way to go.

Read the latest ReSA blog post by Eric Allen Jensen and @danielskatz about the challenges to recognising software contributions in Elevating Research Software: Developing a Roadmap https://www.researchsoft.org/blog/2023-09/

Building on discussions in the US Research Software #Sustainability Institute (URSSI), this blog post shares a set of possible activities aimed at elevating the role of #researchsoftware in #academic #careerpaths, #recognition, and beyond.

We've updated our mission!

"To advance the #researchsoftware ecosystem by collaborating with key influencers and decision makers."

We work through & with other #communities to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, as per our engagement plan https://zenodo.org/record/7714004#.ZAqaw-xBwU5

We've got stickers and patches, if that's your thing. You can find them from around our usual departments, or ask us.

But the story is more than that. We hope to use these to start a community around #SciComp, #ResearchSoftware, #HPC, etc: we hope the black-background ones can be used as an "Ask me anything" sign - to recognize people who want to help others. Does anyone else do something like this?
