Wow, this @xkcd is really excellent.

#Space tip: if you’re ever lost in the inner #solar system, you can just type out the phrase “Optimistic #Aliens measure space typographically” in times new roman and use the dots as a #map

😅

Between the #solar panels and the battery, I've enough electricity to run the #airfryer for my lunch.

Is this #SolarPunk?

#solar vagabond. My posts are now outdated http://hamishcampbell.com/?s=solar+laptop the issue you need is a panel with a "real USB-C PD" rather than just normal USB with a C socket and no PD, then you need to find a battery bank with "power pass-through" and 2 USB-C PD sockets - this is the hard part. And yes you can do it with normal 2amp 5v USB, but his will be battery assist more than power. It will work'ish but lead to premature battery wear all round.

in 2013, coal generated 175 times as much electricity as #solar power in the US. Within a decade, in 2022, coal was generating less than 5 times as much electricity (incl. estimated rooftop solar).

So far this year, coal has generated slightly more than twice as much electricity as all solar.

Coal is dying here but needs to die even faster.

#Solar, #wind provided majority of new US generating capacity in first half of 2023
Utility-scale solar and wind provided over half of new US generating capacity added in the first half of 2023, according to new Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (#FERC) data. 17,017 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity placed in service through June 30, 2023, 5,867 MW (34.48%) came from solar, and 2,750 MW (16.16%) came from wind for a combined total of 50.64%.

A close-up look at the Sun yesterday!

I finally got a break in the non-stop clouds and set up to shoot our #star.

This image is shot through a filter that isolates the tendrils of hydrogen plasma in the outer layer of the #Sun’s chromosphere.
