@0xdd that is absolutely a big part of it yes, along with skeuomorphic icons

currently using windows against my better judgement and encountered an interesting bug: explorer.exe crashed while drag-and-dropping a file, and i had to kill it from task manager. now there's a floating "you can't drop this file here" icon over the top of everything, including full screen programs.

When a government attempts to discredit The Hague, it's a sign something has gone terribly wrong in that country. My latest:

#cartoon #comic #politics #war #humanrights #gaza

in reply to Jen Sorensen

Similarly, when a government kills a record number of journalists ( cpj.org/2023/12/israel-gaza-wa… ), it's a sign that they really, really don't want people to know what they're actually up to.

Thrilled to be immersed in the #fosdem community annual event in Brussels. So much to learn and envision about the changing nature of work from leaders of the #fediverse such as @Gargron the CEO of Mastodon! Thanks to @haubles for making the connection.

That was fun! I think the @Mastodon table at #FOSDEM was the busiest I’ve experienced at an event for a long time - so great to hear from people that use the platform every day! The team enjoyed the chance to meet you - thanks for coming by! More #Merchtodon tomorrow… #WhoIsJohnMastodon

Thank you @Mastodon for reviving the dream of a social web that is open, interoperable and which doesn't monetise my eyeballs to within an inch of their lives. #fosdem

Come and grab a mug at #FOSDEM before they’re gone! They’re quite popular! The 3D printed elephant is not for sale but you could pet him! #Merchtodon
in reply to Eugen Rochko

@Gargron yes , i use very different passwords & also 2-step auth is enabled for almost all accounts.
Excluding mastodon.

& as you think someone has my password of abc account and used same here. My abc account was actually not logged in by anyone from Russia.

Never mind.
I just want to bring this into attention.

Christopher Priest 1943 – 2024

Time Comes For Us All (Announcement)

“You never understood, why we did this. The audience knows the truth: the world is simple. It’s miserable, solid all the way through. But if you could fool them, even for a second, then you can make them wonder, and then you... then you got to see something really special... you really don’t know?... it was... it was the look on their faces..”. - From his work, The Prestige

in reply to Joseph Teller

The Prestige was also made into a film, but the books is better than the film in many ways. It is a difficult work to present since it has a story within a story....but the film does have a good cast :

Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, and David Bowie as Tesla.

in reply to Joseph Teller

Ah, yes... I remember that movie. It was pretty entertaining. But, of course, the book is better... always are, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll make sure to visit! Currently, I'm busy at our own booth, but sooner or later it should be possible.

Do you have some merch with you?

in reply to Eugen Rochko

What does @grishka think of the invasion of #Ukraine? Who is to blame for it? How would he solve the conflict? Does he live in Russia? Does he make enough money to live anywhere but in Russia? If yes, why does he not leave to not fund the invasion as a tax payer?

Visit us at #FOSDEM, building H, level 1! You can say hi to our team or tell us what you’d like to see in Mastodon next. Mugs, t-shirts, enamel pins, and even free stickers available! #Merchtodon

@ntnsndr thanks for all your great work! I'm going to be revisiting your book Everything For Everyone ahead of receiving a couple of the other ones that I just ordered. I first read it in 2018 after it was released and it's played a huge role in inspiring my work towards building and promoting platform co-ops. Kindness and solidarity, Nathan!
in reply to rob

Aww, thank you! This means so much. I hope the latest is of some use too!

video games should make it so if you're losing too much, your punishment is the orchestral soundtrack being replaced by a version with synth bras

in reply to Lynnesbian

if you want to "play" the "game" in the state i stopped working on it (you just walk around a randomly generated raycasted garden), you can get it here for linux and here for windows

#JPEGXL / #JXL, the most requested and upvoted focus area proposal for #web #Interop, has again been rejected as a discussion topic for 2024's web platform Interop industry event, because "We did not have consensus to include this proposal."

Given the industry's broad support, lack of "consensus" sounds an awful lot like "the Google Chrome team lead who authored the AVIF format arranged for it to be vetoed."

Well, it's #GroundhogDay, again.

“Only in America do we accept weather predictions from a rodent but deny #ClimateChange evidence from scientists.”

I share this meme every year on February 2. #science

I don't know about the "Only in America" part. There are plenty of dumbasses the world over.

pet and i have an inside joke where we will describe each other as "walking on all those legs"

it exists because i searched for all permutations of "all ___ legs" on google ngrams and found that "all those legs" was one of the results: books.google.com/ngrams/graph?…

and then we were just thinking about how funny it would be if you were reading a novel and the line "she walked in on all those legs" appeared

The full album downloads (in mp3 or flac format) also come with the original XM modules, so you can see how the songs were written, modify them, pull out the samples, etc.

It's like the source code for the tracks, and you can check it out using a modern Fasttracker 2 compatible program like ft2-clone.

in reply to jefftheworld

Sounds very cool. Will check it out, thanks. And thanks for your music.
