I think you should give a go to Octopus Diver, Stone Rebel and King Weed trio.

All of them are on BandCamp

Kinda harder, but not abrasive.

Do you struggle with modern slang? Are you confused by stuff like "level 5" and "rizzler"?

If yes, my new app is right for you! Rizzference has just entered public TestFlight, so give it a try before anyone else: testflight.apple.com/join/hSVt…

It can:
- Pull slang out of an entire sentence + define multiple words at once
- Do 👆 through Shortcuts
- Show multiple possible definitions for words
- Run on #iOS and #macOS

Built in #SwiftUI for iOS 17 and macOS 13

Mastodon Has A Serious SPAM Problem #YouTube

Thank you to @cappy and everyone else over at @hq who was involved in this research

youtu.be/_KCwq9e-H5M

in reply to Brodie Robertson

Is this generalised across all Mastodon or is it mainly targeting "popular" users?
I ask because I haven't seen any of the spam here yet, but then I rarely visit the federated feed.

So I presume I will only see it if someone I follow actually posts the spam or boosts it.
Otherwise the spammer would have to "at" me for it to be in my mentions or notifications.

BUT I don't want to downplay the problem, is there anything else going on that I've not covered?

in reply to Paul L

@prlzx It's mainly targetting the Japanese servers as they're trying to ruin another Japanese kids life
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I was also interested in the aspect of spoofing as their intended target, and hoping that retaliation from 3rd parties is what actually overwhelms their intended target rather than solely relying on direct methods.

In the network space we've had distributed amplification attacks which work on the same concept but in terms of (say) IP or DNS protocol amongst others.

Smurf and
DNS amplification attacks are 2 of the better known (and old) ones.

Need advice on a flashing animated gif for book promotion

Any good? (It won't upload to Mastodon)

share.mayfirst.org/s/45otQR7Nf…

in reply to Nathan Schneider

I don't pretend to completely understand w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understandin…. I've just avoided flashing of any kind since <blink> was deprecated. If you have access to a Windows machine, you can test to see if that gif exceeds the threshold with trace.umd.edu/peat/.

University co-operative governance:

theconversation.com/universiti…

Way to go!

in reply to Nathan Schneider

@ntnsndr Thanks for the link.

Somehow universities need a return to broad-spectrum learning that isn't wholly driven by money, doctrinaire politics, and testing mania.

Homeschooling is a similar cooperative venture among households, though not at the same scale as a formal cooperative educational environment.

Would K-12 schools cooperatively managed by parents and staff, free from interference by politics and money, be possible as community centers?

in reply to Andrew Shead

one thing kind of sad is that one of the big problems with US public schools is their resemblance to community cooperatives. Since they are funded by property taxes, they vary widely by the incomes of their constituents, along with the contributions to PTAs. This might be a situation where a less cooperative model (uniform funding per student) would be fairer.

Why the chicken? What began as a joke inspired by the commonality between the words “coop” and “co-op” turned into a serious discussion about chickens. That is one gorgeous machine.

But personally I wouldn't buy something that big. I have a 16" from work (Lenovo T16 Gen1) and its just too big, even with the slim bezels. I prefer the roadwarrior machines 😜

Edit: wont say no to that 13" AMD machine though 😉😉
