So. My last attempt to play on Linus was recently. Like, uh, 20 years ago. It was shoddy.

I am still using dual Boot today. Hands down, can Linux be a Gaming platform alongside Windows? Or is dual Boot still required, ie, "some games work, some do not"?

I've been gaming on Steam for Linux since last year and the improvements are great. I have it installed on 2 different OS on my machine sharing the same library. I can switch OS and still have the same favourites and lists. I recommend getting the steam families beta.

Giving up on all the fancy stuff and just transitioned my newsletter back to a simple Mailman operation. There's a form at the bottom of my website: nathanschneider.info/

Bye, bye, tracking and formatting.

in reply to Harry Keller

oh drat. I thought I was being clever copying that token over! I wonder if it would work without the token... Or is there another best practice for embedding a Mailmain subscription form off-site? I just reverted to the link for now.

Unfortunately I don't know. Last time I checked I also gave up and opted for a link. There may be a Wordpress extension to do it but usually you have to either "break" your caching or force the client to make requests to third-party resources.

Okay I knew Opera browser was bad but I had no idea how crazy the situation was until reading this.

Gnome's Icon Theme Is Objectively Broken #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/JsUWl0zbQBg
in reply to Brodie Robertson

OT: Is it only for me, that the YT comments are no longer "down below", but on the side of the video? Maybe you have to rephrase your video ending soon. ;)
in reply to Brodie Robertson

The real thing missing is a clear message from gnome, that just says "Do not depend on our technology, implement your own one". This is absolutely fine to do, but the communication of it is… just not there. It's seemingly always over the bugtracker and thats probably not a good place to start this.

Some people like to portrait AI technology as essentially benign. It is not. It is being used to profile people for arrest, eliminate jobs, spread disinformation and propaganda, and to commit violence against women.

The EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) includes new enforcement tools to finally apply the GDPR to US tech giants.

The problem? Big Tech is actively refusing to comply.

The EFF states, "Apple and Meta are daring the EU to enforce its democratically enacted laws..."

A little fun from the FT. Apparently they don't care for American paper sizes in comparison to ISO 216 and I appreciate the poetry with which they express this. 😀

EDIT: A kind person has provided this link ft.com/content/bb9bf7c6-1785-4… although much of the other language employed smacks of desperation to claim credibility as a younger person and is quite cringeworthy in its use.

I wish more mods worked on it, whenever i find a cool mod, there's always some missing dependency 🙁

I have a lot of sympathy for students who see themselves getting bad value from their degrees & find trying to balance staying financially solvent & studying a sometimes impossible challenge;

But I also have sympathy with university staff trying to encourage in-person attendance (knowing as I do how degraded on-line learning can be).

Sadly, this crisis in higher education is driven by external forces that are pitting students & staff against each other.

There is some wild shit going on on the XDG-toplevel-icon protocol discussion, I don't know how this is going to play out but I expect this too be an important discussion in the Wayland history books for how governance is handled going forward gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland…
in reply to Brodie Robertson

Lesson learned. Never reply to a wayland discussion because your email provider will start yellin' about your inbox being full.
in reply to Brodie Robertson

everytime i see this protocol MR link i start laughing like an insane person, its funniest discussion ever. How are these people unable to see "oh icons, for different windows by same app and in general, good we need this basic feature (even if it exists with .desktop files)" and have to spend time arguing like kids is still funny at this point this protocol is a meme face of wayland.

Well, they can tell you what they want.
It's simply against the law, at least in Germany.
They have to give you access to the account if you can provide the necessary documents.
You will not be able to make new purchases.
Facebook tried to fight this on court and lost.
