“America’s going to have to choose between moving forward or backward, between hope & hate, between unity & division.

We have to decide: Do we still believe in honesty, decency, respect? Freedom, justice & democracy?

In this moment, we can see those we disagree with not as enemies, but as fellow Americans.”

- President Joe #Biden, July 24, 2024

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

May I just add that America is not a country? It's a Continent with around 50 sovereign countries. Kindly suggesting to refer to the USA as such in the Fediverse, not as America, which is demeaning and somehow racist to all the other nations of the Continent. Thanks.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I couldn't watch it because I truly loved him and would have cried.
Did he have any problem making it through the speech?
He sure looked like he was fine to me .
I still think this was a racist based attack because there are a bunch of KKK that didn't want V.P. Harris in charge of the nation...
And guess what, it fucking backfired spectacularly.

This is neither photoshopped nor AI. This blue lobster was caught near Portland, Maine. It was released after a few photos.
Blue Maine lobsters are a rare sight, occurring in about 1 in 2 million lobsters due to a genetic mutation that causes an excess of a particular protein. Protecting these rare lobsters is crucial, as they highlight the incredible diversity of marine life found off the coast of Maine.

Great talk by @rwg on the development of ActivityPub at IETF. That's @Identitywoman sharing a comment in the foreground.

How can the fediverse get some of these little buttons on various platforms with the cute little logos? I remember there was a logo for a bit. A fediverse logo not just the Mastodon one.

Would it be possible to create a 501c3 dedicated to promoting independent social media? No rule making, no software, just soft power, branding and schmoozing.

in reply to Ed Summers

Nice! Yes, I think adding all the WG feeds would be great. We could set it up to consume an arbitrary number of feeds and query them all.

Would doing this be easier on your script or mine? I'd be happy to add it on mine.

in reply to Nathan Schneider

Seems like your general purpose tool might be the better one to use, especially since it already is set up for multiple feeds and is generally more sophisticated. My stuff is total amateur hour!

So sorry to hear that the quite wonderful Hakai Magazine will shut down at the end of the year.

So wait maybe single-issue crypto voters aren't the constituency that is going to swing the election?

My new blog post is now up!

You can contribute to KDE with non-C++ code

I always see:

  • people being told they can contribute to KDE with C++/QML
  • people being told they can contribute to KDE without code

But I don't often see:

  • people being told that they can contribute to KDE with code that is not C++

I like C++, QML, and even CMake, but you might not be interested in them or you might just not be willing to spend time learning another language, and that's perfectly fine.

In this blog post I list a few KDE projects that you might not know about that might be written in your preferred language or in a specialized format you have expertise or interest in.

By far, the most popular programming language actively used in KDE other than the expected languages is Python.

We also have stuff that would interest sysadmins (containers), packagers (snap/flatpak) and web developers.

in reply to joostruis

@joostruis It's pretty well established that if you post about Lunduke on a Linux forum you're probably going to be banned. Whether or not you agree with that you shouldn't be surprised that it happened anymore.

Keep in mind it's just one Manjaro GNOME maintainer who decided that he wanted to get some attention by doing so.

A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!
