This is unxgo, inspired and based on @RavenLuni 's work at Hundred Rabbits.

https://github.com/ha1tch/unxgo

With many thanks and unreserved admiration for @RavenLuni and @rek 's inspiring, delicate, and beautifully precise work

My stuff is work in progress, not yet complete, may not compile. May implement a different kind of bitmap graphics system going forward.

My goal is not to offer a competing Varvara implementation on big systems, but to learn the platform and see how much of it I'm able to implement on other smaller systems. Possibly, eventually with TinyGo on microcontrollers, Z80, and the like.

Other work in progress: a DSL that works like a lua layer on top of unxtal called ualunx

HEY, YOU!

Do you want to come build #retrocomputing infrastructure for a 90's themed ISP? (websites, game servers, etc)

Go give this page on my wiki a read

https://wiki.cursedsilicon.net/index.php?title=Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net

Eventually it'll be open to all users ala Geocities, but for now I want to put together a "core team" to get the ball rolling for an eventual launch

EDIT: MORE DETAILS ARE NOW ON THE WIKI. PLEASE GIVE IT A READ!

HEY #Retrocomputing folk

I made a VIDEO

You should go watch it maybe? ❤

In my day, this is how we took screenshots. Ad for NPC's ScreenShooter from #anticmagazine November 1984. #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #atari8bit #genx

A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!

The NuBus started as an MIT research project and was used in such diverse machines as the NuMachine by TI (originally designed by Western Digital), LMI's Lambda and TI's Explorer Lisp machines, the TI1500 family of Unix servers, Apple's 68k (starting with the Mac II) and first generation PowerPC Macintoshes (7100/8100) and, in a modified version, as expansion bus for the NeXT Cube.

Okay, folks, as you know, I'm watching an anime "16-bit sensation", a show about NEC PC-98 nostalgia. It made me power up my PC-9821 Aile and boot into DOS/V, and finally try to launch some high-end PC-98 games. And I am speechless. Even on an LCD screen from mid-90s, the art is legendary.

PC-98 series is a special beast. Conceived by NEC as a business computer, the first models were based on Intel's powerful 8086 (the year was 1982). Unlike IBM PC clones, PC-98 supported Japanese out of the box, with complicated input system and thousands of kanji. To make the kanji look good, or, rather, at least minimally readable, the computer's graphics was 640x400 in 16 colours.

As you can imagine, adding Japanese support to a regular PC is hard. No one could do it, and NEC PC-98, became the biggest thing.

For PC games, it made all the difference.

Here's another new artwork: "An Hour with ELIZA," a dot-matrix print of a conversation between the 1960's "psychotherapist algorithm" ELIZA and ChatGPT 4.

When a #RIFA cap feels threatened, it fans out it's plumage to make itself look bigger.

after I had it on for 20 or 30 minutes, it let out the magic smoke from an X-class capacitor on the PSU board. #retroComputing #sparky #magicSmoke

I found some info from someone who had a very similar failure and positively identified the failed capacitor (mine was unidentifiable): http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/Xerox/820-II.html

I just scored an apparently-working Z80 CP/M system (Xerox 820) at an estate sale. The computer lives inside the monitor, plus there's a keyboard & HUGE two 8" disk drives. One of the floppies will boot it to an "A>" CP/M command prompt. What in the world will I do with it? #retroComputing #z80 #cpm

This is easily the most insanely unique (if slightly slow as a result) visual concept for displaying “drawers” I think I’ve ever seen.

Interlocking Drawer icons illustrated to resemble a very fancy menu UI. 🤯

Even the disk icon is amazing.

While traveling today, I pulled off the highway to find a place to use the bathroom and stumbled upon a really awesome computer museum. As soon as I pulled up I saw a Cray 1 through the window.

We didn't have an appt for a tour, but the owner spent an hour and a half walking us through everything. Super awesome place. If you're ever in the Cockeysville, MD area, check out the System Source Computer Museum! #retrocomputing #VintageApple

The influential hypermedia system NoteCards, which provided inspiration to other such systems in the 1980s and later. Here it is running in the cloud under Medley Interlisp in an online session on my Chromebox.

I would apologize for posting what at first appears to be another "tech toot"...but since I churned out almost 40 drawings for this talk on the Forth programming language, I don't feel bad about it at all. Here's the slides:

I happen to know some of you enjoy space ships, calculators, and old computers as much as I do.

Gonna do some new #introductions via various stuff I’ve work on over the next few days to help find my scene!

My first serious personal project was about 10 years ago when I wrote this video codec for the Apple II, which played short looping animations converted from animated gifs. You load em off of a standard 5.25” 140k floppy!

Here’s the hackaday on it:
