Writing is sometimes an artifact meant to provide evidence of understanding. If you take a document and transform it with a thesaurus and grammatical isomorphisms to obfuscate the source, that is plagiarism. The victim is not just the person who wrote the original content, but also the reader who is being deceived into believing you understand and communicated your understanding. Generative models are automating that obfuscation and everything that comes out is tainted.

This part is especially helpful:

> Writing is sometimes an artifact meant to provide evidence of understanding

In my classes, this is almost exclusively its purpose.

> Ethical use of AI: How do you ensure your compliance?

We expect from you, @nextcloud, more than mere compliance with the law.

For a project founded and heavily promoted as ethically right, we expect compliance with what #ethics demands.

That means: No use of technology that consumes gargantuan amounts of electricity and fresh water. No use of #LLM corpuses extracted from the internet without consent of the creators.

While that is the "AI" being offered, reject it utterly.

so true 😄 This movie is part of a series that I showed to my teenage daughter to teach her about life, about being a woman, and about why Science Fiction is awesome. She loved it !

"but I imagine this will also increase the complaints from developers on their new releases being quickly pushed down by demo releases."

How is that a bad thing? Every single person that plays your demo is exposed to a very compelling advertisement for the full game

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

I never checked it and I don't have anything released on Steam yet, but if Demos will also require a separate upfront fee, like each game you want to sell does.

What a day. We are still fundraising fiercely at secure.actblue.com/donate/mast…. I took time to set up #MastodonBlueWave at secure.actblue.com/donate/mast…. But what has kept me busiest - apart from getting ready for out-of-town visitors - is that I’m starting to make modest inroads with people in and adjacent to the #HarrisForPresident campaign. This is a painstaking process, lots of emails, calls, texts, everybody sounding each other out. 1/

Since I am not about to blast unsubstantiated claims to several hundreds of thousands of OSNews readers, can someone take a look at this Jira ticket for ReactOS and share what they think?

The creator of the ticket claims ReactOS is using code taken straight from the leaked Windows NT4 code - as in, copy/pasted. I have no idea what to make of this.

This is pretty neat! Steam making demo releases behave essentially like F2P releases doesn't really erode space indies were leveraging. In fact it shoulders in on a space currently dominated by uhhhh mostly garbage.
