Ethical use of AI: five major challenges Nextcloud
What are the challenges of the ethical use of AI and how to employ AI tools without risking your privacy, reputation, and sustainability?Mikhail Korotaev (Nextcloud)
> Ethical use of AI: How do you ensure your compliance?
We expect from you, @nextcloud, more than mere compliance with the law.
For a project founded and heavily promoted as ethically right, we expect compliance with what #ethics demands.
That means: No use of technology that consumes gargantuan amounts of electricity and fresh water. No use of #LLM corpuses extracted from the internet without consent of the creators.
While that is the "AI" being offered, reject it utterly.

Valve gives developers some big reasons to add a demo on Steam
Valve have overhauled the way game demos work on Steam in some big ways, and it sounds like a really good thing for both developers and players.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)
"but I imagine this will also increase the complaints from developers on their new releases being quickly pushed down by demo releases."
How is that a bad thing? Every single person that plays your demo is exposed to a very compelling advertisement for the full game

Since I am not about to blast unsubstantiated claims to several hundreds of thousands of OSNews readers, can someone take a look at this Jira ticket for ReactOS and share what they think?
The creator of the ticket claims ReactOS is using code taken straight from the leaked Windows NT4 code - as in, copy/pasted. I have no idea what to make of this.

This is pretty neat! Steam making demo releases behave essentially like F2P releases doesn't really erode space indies were leveraging. In fact it shoulders in on a space currently dominated by uhhhh mostly garbage.

I think “if AI is used to generate any content that you turn in” is kinda ambiguous. If someone accepts a spell check recommendation, does that count? What about a simplification from Grammarly or Hemingway?
Nathan Schneider
in reply to Peter Bronez • • •Yeah Grammarly is an issue. Students have gotten flagged for that a lot before.
Maybe it is time to just let it all fly.
