August community update

Hello everyone, welcome back to another community update! In this update we announce a new community manager, updates to the PineTab2 and PineNote, FreeBSD on the PinePhone Pro, a guide on upstreaming PinePhone Pro patches and a small bit for you Pinecil users.

It's finally finished, hope you all enjoy 😄 .

Good to see a new update and moves to more community editions. I always wished that Pine actually charged about $40 more per PinePhone/Pro/Note, but just put that extra money towards paying for software support for the most important things the community wasn't likely to pick up. The PPP could have been a huge success with some strategic development support. I still would love to see a decent midrange phone style device with mainline support for all the main hardware and power management.

Thank you for your work! A few suggestions:
* my pseudo is spelled ayakael
* could you be so kind to add a link to postmarketos instructions for flashing the image: wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/PIN…

Cheers!

By fall I hope to have images generated for the next release of pmos.

My friends at @nextcloud have launched a Digital Sovereignty Index. While not perfect, it gives a fascinating insight into which countries self-host and thus control their digital destiny.

I am also surprised by the definition of Dig Sovereignty: "Digital Sovereignty refers to a country's ability to control and govern its own digital infrastructure and data.". If you live in an authoritarian regime (and as we see any democracy can eventually become one), the country can very well control the digital infrastructure, but for the institutions and people within the country it is the opposite of sovereignty. This is a much better definition: cio.bund.de/Webs/CIO/DE/digita…

This monarch, a skipper, & some bumblebees were enjoying the zinnias Thursday. Seen monarchs around the garden nearly every day now. They seem to especially like the zinnias, the most abundant large flower in the garden right now.

Debian turned 32 today! 🎉

💡 The Debian project was officially founded on August 16, 1993, by Ian Murdock. This day is also known as Debian Day.

Sursiendo reshared this.

The word "Debian" was formed as a portmanteau of the first names of himself and his then-girlfriend (later ex-wife) Debra Lynn.

There is a new short domain name for #PuTTY!

putty.software/

At present, this is just a "landing page": a nice short name to remember, which will redirect you to the full PuTTY website at the same longer URL where it's always been.

But unlike putty.org or other third-party landing pages, this one is run by us, the actual PuTTY team, and it doesn't have a weird separate agenda of its own.

I intend to move the main PuTTY site over to that domain in the future, and leave just a redirector at the old location. But first I want to get the word out, so that people know which site to trust.

If anyone is still linking to putty.org, here's a place to link to instead. Please spread the word!

More power to them. State and local governments offer our best chance of resistance, IMO.
in reply to Joseph Teller

I've often said that the city I live in is on the front lines of the battles against Trump, and this article kinda shows it from the legal battle side of things. There also isn't a week that goes by without protests, petition drives, and passive resistance against Trump going on.

The question front and center is how long can the city keep up the funding to manage this side of the fight. I often think that the entire Trump Administration is a long con that went on too long and the authority grab is in hopes of preventing them all from getting caught as they bankrupt America into offshore accounts.

The rakali (Hydromys chrysogaster) is Australia's largest rodent. They eat shellfish, fish and other aquatic animals.

But they've also figured out how to eat toxic cane toads safely. They make an incision into the stomach, then remove and eat the heart and liver.

Cute, or what?

They have also just topped a poll for “Australia’s favourite underrated native animal”:

Nevertheless - many thanks for your good work, Team Nextcloud!
