#OTD in 1957, space capsules got their shape! NASA engineer Max Faget proposed a blunt conical shape for Earth re-entry based on Harvey Allen's research. The Mercury capsule, shown below during a wind tunnel test, was NASA's 1st crewed spacecraft to use this design!

Lots of Moon action this month—and we don’t just mean Orion’s journey! On the evening of Dec. 1, the Moon will appear very close to Jupiter. A few days later, it’ll cover up Mars and end the month by sliding past Saturn and Jupiter. Our What’s Up! guide has all the details.

are they using aeroponics to grow the tomatoes? And also did they use anything with microbes to help with nutrient uptake? Or are they just testing the nutrients & growth habits ?

LastPass had a breach.

You should just go ahead and use Bitwarden already.

KeepassXC is great, but Availability is critical with password storage. If you lose your database, you've just lost access to dozens of sites. Don't be recommending people use it without some sort of foolproof recovery plan.

nah not a breach.
Lastpass had _another_ breach. As in every year if I'm not mistaken...

@jacobgonzales20 a distribution run by one person is not something I'll ever recommend to people regardless of who does it
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

One exception, from experience: when you have a bleeding-edge gaming hardware.

After months of unsuccessful attempts to make Ubuntu use the hardware properly (incl. following GitHub threads closely), I gave Manjaro a shot and it worked on the very same day (this included switching to the experimental linux kernel). I'll very likely revert back to a Debian-based distro at some point though.

A Titan-ic success!

Here is Webb’s first look at Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Because Titan has a dense atmosphere, its surface is hidden in visible light. Enter Webb’s infrared eye, which captured clouds as well as bright & dark patches on its surface: go.nasa.gov/3FijpXN
#JamesWebb

The 2 clouds seen by Webb validate long-held predictions that clouds form in the northern hemisphere during Titan's late summer, when the Sun warms its surface. Follow-up observations by the Keck Observatory also revealed clouds, confirming seasonal weather patterns.

Vic3 is definitely on my wishlist, but I have to play CK3 first... its been on my backlog for a while now
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

From my point of view, Paradox interactive is one of my top game producers 😀

I have been playing Europa Universalis IV for so many hours for so many years and it is still developed, supported, and extended by DLC ( the main game was released in 2013). Similarly, I have been playing other games such as Crusader Kings II and III, Hearts of Iron 2-4 (I skipped the third part) or now Victoria III.

But I dont have so much free time now...😁

@PlantTeaching ah yes I see your list on the big list of lists. It was an important step in it's early creation that we added opt-in language to there.

I'm not sure I have accepted that my last.fm archive is going to stagnate. I'm going to get some Pine Buds to listen to music on my phone and maybe that will encourage me to look for ways to scrobble again.

Great article from @dajb about governance on Mastodon servers. Like social.coop, Friend Camp has started using Loomio to make group consensus decisions around things like non-obvious defederation, and it's working out really well.

dougbelshaw.com/blog/2022/11/2…

I recommend instance admins look into Loomio. Once we have used it a bit more on Friend Camp I am going to post a how-to and best practices for small servers.
