My partner kept mentioning that he wanted coloured buttons for his #SteamDeck. After losing my fear of opening up the deck thanks to replacing fan & SSD an idea started forming for a surprise & #projects entry.

So - in secrecy - I designed a 3d printed box to create a 2 part silicone mold of the buttons (taken from my deck), cast them in epoxy resin, applied rub on letters & sealed those in with UV resin.

Really happy with the result, as is he 😊 And this is just v1, got some bigger plans 😁

One reason Le Guin's Hainish cycle is so fascinating and compelling to me is that it is deeply informed by anthropological work on human cultural diversity (Le Guin's parents were anthropologists)

Reading The Dawn of Everything by Graeber/Wengrow fills me with a renewed awe about our past and even with hope for the future — diverse, multi-threaded, playful, resilient

In this tube: a piece of sandstone, with clues about the wet environment it formed in. The individual grains within this rock got carried here by a river that flowed in long ago. That means it's got info about what it was like farther upstream. Catnip for rock nerds!

Reminder: this set I’m dropping is a backup. Plan A: I deliver the samples I’m still carrying (and others still to come) directly to #MarsSampleReturn. But if I can’t, this set alone would be worth sending back. mars.nasa.gov/msr

When I see the erosional and depositional features of Mars, I wonder where the water might be. Even if Mars was de-watered by some catastrophic event, there is most likely still considerable water under the surface.

The Division 2 works great for me on Steam Deck. I don’t have any graphics issues like other players are having, I did not change any settings. I do Ethernet over USB-C for networking and not Wi-Fi. Not sure if that is why it works so well for me ?
I’ve played 8 hours with 0 crashes, others say in Windows it is unplayable from so many crashes ! Lol !

Tick Borne Encephalitis Virus (TBEV) is found in northern latitudes from England to Siberia, with variants across North America.

Daniel Růžek's lab has been doing some great work studying this possibly common, but under-diagnosed, pathogen.

Their latest paper describes how they used a Leishmania expression system to produce TBEV virus-like particles (VLP).

When used as a vaccine, the VLPs provided full protection from lethal TBEV in mice.

I see it is "Windows" but that may work with Steamdeck, or other ways of running Windows content on a Linux environment.

SHOE (2019):

As an anarchist, a mother, an archaeologist, I’m deeply concerned with making kin through the investigation and care of objects, places, and people. Finding a politics of joy and intimacy, and building things together as a way to resist Empire. In this short film I gave an alienated object, a child’s shoe, to my kin, the caretakers of the discarded to understand and reanimate this object, even as it disintegrated in our hands.

@ephemeral Thank you, this comment means a lot to me. There's a lot of love in this video, which is not usually an inspiration for me in archaeological filmmaking.
