Re-#introduction after coming back to this instance (hopefully for keeps). 😅

Hi! 👋

Like others, the birdsite used to be my primary platform, and now I'm seeing if the Fediverse can fill that void. I'm a big fan of western animation, and I'm hoping that the thriving #MastoArt community will eventually lead to more activity in the related hashtags (#amphibia, #bigcitygreens, #closeenough, #craigofthecreek, #owlhouse, #summercampisland, etc.). I'm also a former indie game developer, current professional Web Developer, and I tinker with #rust as my new favorite language.

'it seemed like we were moving closer together' is a 2021 interactive art installation about contact, technology, transistors and critters.

in reply to Esmail EL BoB :dinosaur:

hey there! XMPP has always been causing issues because all the different servers either use different syntaxes for their vcard implementation, or don't send vcard data at all.

I looked into it and it appears this is yet another vcard syntax! But the data is there so I got it working locally. I will try and release a new library and keyoxide version either today or tomorrow to fix this for everyone!

(As to the fingerprint short version, I guess we could support that, will look into)

in reply to Keyoxide

Hmm, weird. I use snikket which is just Prosŏdy with modules already loaded in it, So it should be fine with vcards.

oh they have docker-compose...that's like a green light for me

Cognitive decline linked to ultraprocessed food, study finds

cnn.com/2022/08/01/health/ultr…

This is lousy science, in that they do not even define "ultraprocessed".

in reply to tom grzyb

Ultraprocessed foods are defined as “industrial formulations of food substances (oils, fats, sugars, starch, and protein isolates) that contain little or no whole foods and typically include flavorings, colorings, emulsifiers, and other cosmetic additives,”

That should not include ice cream or french fries. French fries are almost 100% potato and vegetable oil, these are “whole foods”. Vegetable oil is not significantly processed. Ice Cream is almost entirely milk and cream - with a good dose of sugar - also not highly processed.

The notion of "industrial formulation" is rather vague also. What if you eat home-made ice cream? And hot french fries are most frequently fried directly at the place of purchase - though you can fry potatoes at home also...

in reply to tom grzyb

Those in the study who ate the most ultraprocessed foods were "more likely to be younger, women, White, had higher education and income, and were more likely to have never smoked, and less likely to be current alcohol consumers," the study found. - ah, those can be the reasons for the cognitive decline, right there. Seriously!

Chances of climate catastrophe are ignored, scientists say

apnews.com/article/science-cli…

The scientists aren’t saying that worst is going to happen. They say the trouble is no one knows the likelyhood

in reply to tom grzyb

Good risk analyses consider both what’s most likely and what’s the worst that could happen, study authors said.
in reply to tom grzyb

The worst that can happen is if we continue to do little-to-nothing. How likely is that? ;-((

Harris cites climate ‘crisis,’ pushes $1B for floods, storms

apnews.com/article/floods-wild…

One Billion to address the results, not to address the cause?

in reply to tom grzyb

_“The devastation is real. The harm is real. The impact is real,″ Harris said. “And we are witnessing it in real time.″ _

Not real enough to prevent, though.

in reply to tom grzyb

“My city doesn’t debate whether the climate is changing, we simply look at the ground on a sunny day and see flooding,” Gelber said.

That is the problem, idiot.

You know what okay I'm dumb and stupid, probably never know how to turn on a computer but you have no rights to insult me like this, so yes you not only change how gitea deals with gpg but also treat me bad because I was not aware of it? fuck you gitea team
in reply to Esmail EL BoB :dinosaur:

Okay now they removed me from discord server because I said they are dicks for not leaving a big notice in github or anything because they changed where gitea looks for gpg now
in reply to Esmail EL BoB :dinosaur:

Even in their blog they posted the update about gpg without single gpg keyword inside it: blog.gitea.io/2022/07/gitea-1.…

so if I'm a user who was not aware about gitea changed it's config folder I will search for "gpg" or "pgp" not "config", goddammit people

No single small clue for me to search upon and call me "I do not know how gpg works" fuck this shit, Only clue I found is inside their wiki (after updating it later) and when he mentioned GNUPGHOME in discord and nothing else

Poles mark 1944 revolt against Nazis; compare it to Ukraine

@tom grzyb

The Germans suppressed the rebellion brutally, destroying most of Warsaw and killing around 200,000 people, most of them civilians.

My congressman Richie Rich O'Neal, supposedly a Liberal and "man of the people" is notoriously difficult to reach - and has been known to even let labor leaders keep hanging...

This O'Neal guy is a poster-child for establishment insider, co-opted by Big Business.

Why is “the Left” Red-Baiting "Rise Up for Abortion Rights" on the Eve of Fascist Destruction?

counterpunch.org/2022/08/01/wh…

The red and cult-baiting is unjustly offensive also to the tens of thousands of concerned and active citizens who have taken up RU4AR’s calls for mass action and civil disobedience because the calls match their sense of what is required in the battle against the female enslavement that is forced motherhood.

in reply to tom grzyb

Speaking as a person on the left since the 1980s (including tenures in the Green Party too), I think it's fair to say that we, the USAmerican left, has been a miserable failure over the last 40 years. I imagine our existence has had a few positive effects (perhaps including reigning in somewhat US foreign policy imperialism in Latin America), but overall, massive failure.
in reply to tom grzyb

(the) American left, has been a miserable failure over the last 40 years

This is not the fault of the many people who are active on the left-side - considerable money and resources have been spent by the establishment specifically to undermine the effectiveness of these movements. That is what this article is about!

The Gradual Judicial Assassination of Julian Assange

counterpunch.org/2022/08/01/pe…

in reply to tom grzyb

it seems to be cutting off one's nose to spite one's face (and i should know), should Julian's life end in prison - the bizarre injustice is too well-known. it would not go well for any involved. further incarceration is pointless - the flow of information has not stopped nor even abated so as a deterrent that's a fail.
in reply to tom grzyb

the bizarre injustice is too well-known

But the point is to keep the press head-down. I think it works - how much information is suppressed is impossible to determine.

US Navy developing water-based drones

foxnews.com/us/us-navy-develop…

This is the way to go.

in reply to tom grzyb

The US (and some of our allies) is at a huge disadvantage relative to China, and even some disadvantage relative to Russia. We cannot prevail in a war where there is a numerically equal loss of manpower. The only way to surmount this simple fact is to bring "intelligent" weaponry to the front.

Russian strikes kill Ukrainian grain tycoon; drone hits Russian naval base

reuters.com/world/europe/russi…

Virtually all of the destruction of infrastructure and “civilian” resources is taking place within the territory of Ukraine - this is highly unsymmetrical.

in reply to tom grzyb

Ukraine is at a huge disadvantage as it is the Ukrainian national resources which are being destroyed - while the Russian infrastructure and civil resources remain untouched. The fact of this asymmetry does not predict a positive outcome for Ukraine.
