This is a question the entire fediverse needs to wrangle with. On the one hand, advertising has had an unquestionably negative impact on the Internet. On the other, these services DO cost money to run. While in a perfect world donations would cover everything, the reality is most users of the platforms/communities aren't paying to support them. If we don't all figure this out, it's going to be hard for the fediverse to scale. Would love to hear ideas in the comments!

Half of Twitter’s top advertisers have fled Elon Musk’s platform. They’ll have a tricky time migrating to Mastodon, an emerging alternative
Mastodon says it's "social networking that's not for sale," but that doesn’t mean all is lost for businesses on the site.David Meyer (Fortune)

There is conversation about a proposed gathering of collectively/cooperatively/democratically run Mastodon instances.
As @natematias has pointed out, this conversation needs to start with #bipoc, #lgbtqia+, and other people who have been (and continue to be) attacked in social media spaces.
If you are running a #Black, #BIPOC, #LGBTQIA+ or other instance, does a gathering of collective/cooperative instances seem useful to you?

It's a radio week for me...
I set up a #libreelec media player with a Raspberry Pi 3 and a touchscreen as a home music and radio hub. The aim was to stop using a laptop for media, while keeping audio accessible for the people who share this space, including visitors. My compliments to libreelec on this, it's very user friendly.
So a question: I love radio but I've never used internet radio much. Any recommendations (for eclectic music particularly)? Will try anything...
Will second SomaFM, there's a Kodi app you can install to get their channels. Secret Agent is my current favourite, strong Bond vibes with the occasional cringey Bond quote.
I like psy*radio which you can get via the Radio app. (I think search for psyradio in the app). I find all their channels great music for working too, but Chill is prolly best for keeping everyone happy.

Appeareance of images attached to a post
Hello @Friendica Developers @Friendica Support @friendica-dev.mbbit.de/profile… Hello dear community, I would like to discuss with you about the appearance of posts with multiple images on #Friedica. Here is my opinion:
The current way multiple #images are displayed is awful:
Yeah, you saw it by my embedded examples your self. What bothers me most is:
- It just looks messy (especially when there is a mix of landscape and portrait format)
- Besides the aesthetics, multiple images take a lot of room (when you do not use an add-on like show more)
My suggestion on which I would love to hear your opinion is to use a grid format like on #mastodon:
I would pitch a suggestion by adding a PR for a (from my point of view) "better" appearance based to this
tutorial. I do not like to use JS in general and would leave it out by determine the suited amount of columns in the backend.
But before I invest time on that, I want to hear your feedback. Thank You!
The image grid feature is now live in the 2022.12-rc branch.
❤ Thank you very much for all the feedback and support! ❤
One known issue is that the grid is not generated in "quote shared" post, and I did not find the time to analyze / address it (github.com/friendica/friendica…).
Can you provide an example? Thank You!
