This is a nice overview on sodium batteries. I have to admit that I'm a bit half and half about MIT, but this looks good!
This abundant material could unlock cheaper batteries for EVs
"Sodium could end up in EV batteries in China as early as the end of this year, but the technology probably won’t overthrow lithium. Rather, the world of batteries will likely continue to branch out and diversify, with companies developing more battery options for different situations. There are “nooks and crannies” in the battery market, as Whitacre puts it, and soon, sodium-ion might finally find its place."

Sodium-based batteries could start hitting the market this year, if companies follow through on their plans.Casey Crownhart (MIT Technology Review)

Never been to #BurningMan, never been sad about it.
Let's just say: no artist could create an installation that more effectively destroys the internal logic of the whole fucking thing, than driving hundreds of miles to bulldoze a climate protest so you can party in the middle of the desert, in the same summer where hundreds were murdered & poisoned by smoke in #Lahaina & #Yellowknife & across the #PacNW.
Edit to add link - sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/…
Safe to say, Burning Man has utterly jumped the shark.
I knew some cool people who went, but I don't think anyone remotely sensitive to what is going on in the world will be going to #BurningMan next year. So bye-bye to #FOMO on that one.
The essence of capitalist “private” property is *sabotage.* Block access to something useful and then charge for that access.

‘An absolute mess’: learner drivers forced to buy tests on black market as companies block-book slots
As brokers exploit the hunt for tests with an automated ‘bot’ system, many are paying extortionate fees to ditch their L-platesJon Ungoed-Thomas (The Guardian)
Their main complaint boils down to the fact that it's not as impactful as the original because it's an abridged version of it, but with the series being currently 1000 chapters long, it's simply impossible to "commit" to bringing everything to the live action.
It's a fair review but their negative point about it choosing a middle ground is actually a strong point for me, you just can't have everything and rewriting the entire thing is simply also impossible.

Linux Accent Colors Are Happening... But At What Cost

Honestly, I can partly see where Gnome is going for, but they shouldn't expect everyone to cater to them, especially after a pretty good compromise was offered. Would it have been that bad if some random person broke a gnome app on their custom tiling WM because they set the wrong accent color? I mean gradience is already a thing.
My only hope is that in the future a gnome extension exists that will make gnome compatible with this portal.

But seriously, I don't get all that controversy around requiring 2FA. The only somewhat legitimate complaint I've heard is that some people don't have a second device they could use as a second factor and that would exclude them somehow. But even that isn't the case, because nothing prevents you from using TOTP on the same device. It actually still provides a fraction of 2FA security. (e.g. helps with phishing).
