YouTube doesn't like self-hosting content.

Sure, people could move away to more liberal/open platforms like PeerTube, but the audience there is too fragmented and small to sustain creators financially. Things just aren’t quite there yet

And why are people on YouTube? Because that’s where the content is. Viewers won’t move away until after content creators do. You are the people with the power to do this.

in reply to It's FOSS

Why does this seem incredulous? Google wanting to keep a monopoly on things is so unlike them.

The OpenInfra Foundation has a new home now.

in reply to It's FOSS

While I am all for increasing effort in FOSS and open infrastructure, I do worry a bit about centralizing so much in the Linux foundation. They are sponsored by big tech to a large degree, which is fine on its own. But when centralizing power the potential of abuse becomes increasingly larger.
I'm still happy for the potential benefits for the open infrastructure movement though!

Let's "Talk" about the latest release of #NextcloudTalk, our #PrivacyFirst feature-packed video conference platform.

What’s new:
🛡️ Secure View for external shares
🔐 Enhanced chat privacy
☎️ Talk Phone: unique numbers, no personal phones

...and more!

Thanks to our amazing community for being part of it.

Rewatch the online launch now: youtu.be/YtC6bYmS5Iw

in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Does the Talk app now include the high-performance backend? Or does that still require installation of a Docker container of sketchy provenance and likely insufficient security updates?

Look, Nextcloud, we want to use your tools! If you've gotten around to making that easier, rather than harder, please advertise that right up front, as the big headline. Is HPB easy and secure yet? Is it?!?

I wanted to get a picture of a puffin with the mountains in the background instead of the sea. Without a wide-angle lens, this was the best I could pull off lol. I'm still kind of proud of it, though.

Finding this booklet by @ntnsndr et al. very useful as I think about how to facilitate governance design for @SunMtnFarmClub , (though I think social.coop is a mix of circles and do-ocracy, not just the latter).

@SunMtnFarmClub So glad to hear it! We're thoroughly rebuilding the accompanying website, and always looking for potential users who want to give the design a test.

in reply to nebunez

@nebunez ooh nice, thanks for the pointer! •ᴗ•

Just to clarify - you mean the redundancy of multiple channels contributes to the project feeling more alive? (I'd agree to that and I'd like to somehow keep that aspect, just trying to make it more optimized as a process so not everything needs to be authored from scratch and separately as right now 😁)

in reply to Simon Repp

I mean the presentation of these release notes; making a release notes page that feels like a celebration with fun and visually appealing content that summarizes the release without too much detail (but still linking to the details for those interested)

as a content creator myself I appreciate your work and staying away from shortcuts, "pleasing the algorithm" and just dishonest tactics.

I bet it doesn't pay off yet, but one day it will if we stick with it. There's more to success than just numbers (traffic and engagement).

Again, thank you for your content!

Mesa 25.1.2 graphics drivers bug-fix released for Linux gamingonlinux.com/2025/06/mesa…

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

having played this myself, I can say it's a good game for sure and worth checking out.

There are some parts that don't work, like the dialog is a bit repetitive and I would have appreciated if the overworld player character sprite didn't always face a single direction.

All in all, it's a ol' west themed farming sim with a dash of a twin stick shooter.
