Oh, pretty excited, the frogs decided I weren't a threat and called for me while I was filming!

youtu.be/UkKBZVFDEUM

Video is shaky (handheld while kneeling in a puddle) and the light flickers 'cause it was just a cheap LED torch, but I still got a call on video. 😀

Found this Eastern Small-eyed Snake tonight under the house.

Very chill fellow, which we left alone (apart from a quick photoshoot).

Highly venomous (mytotoxic) with one recorded death in the greater brisbane area (probably quite some time ago, the Qld Museum book doesn't specify).

An observation from July 2021. A Pied Imperial Pigeon (Ducula bicolor) spotted at the Sungei Tengah area, Singapore. Last spotted one in March 2020, so good to see it again.

The Pied Imperial Pigeon is an uncommon resident bird.

Seeing Striated Herons (Butorides striata) fishing at Sungei Serangoon, Singapore, while walking along the park connector there nowadays. This one was seen on 4 Dec 2021.

Look at this glorious friend.

A Red-eyed Treefrog (Litoria Chloris). One of about 3 - 4 spotted in my backyard in the rain, calling away happily.

A Malaysian Pied-Fantail (Rhipidura javanica) spotted at Coney Island, Singapore, on 31 Oct 2021. It fanned its tail somewhat, but I haven't got it in full 'crazy' mode yet. 🙂

In the local Malay language, its name is Murai-Gila Biasa, or Ordinary Crazy-Magpie.

Another new bird! A Great Bowerbird, spotted in Chillagoe. The male (with the pink crest) was displaying for three females in the hope of mating. He was ultimately unsuccessful on this attempt, but I’m sure he gave it another go after we left.

Not the best photos, since he was off the track and hidden in the undergrowth, but here is the Tooth-billed Bowerbird, which also only lives on and around the Atherton Tablelands. I have a sound recording of his call too, which I'll post when I can get it off the phone.

After hearing them all over the Daintree Rainforest and Atherton Tablelands, I finally saw a Victoria's Riflebird. This is a female (I heard the male, but it wasn't coming down from the tree tops).

These birds only live around this area (Atherton -> Daintree) and are one of three Qld species of Riflebirds.

I also found a Brown-capped Emerald-Dove (well two of them actually) along the same stream the platypus was in.

Spotted two wee platypus this morning after leaving Hastie's Swamp (and heading to Yungaburra).

More cuteness! Mareeba Rock Wallabies. These are fairly small kangaroos (about knee height), very soft, and adorable.

Spotted at Granite Gorge, Mareeba.

Also, another new bird for me, the Macleay’s Honeyeater. This bird only occurs on the Atherton Tablelands.

Took some finding, but I found a Golden Bowerbird (and bower). These guys only occur in a small part of far north Qld and only above 900m elevation.
