Since I've had confirmation this is real, I'll reshare it now. It looks like Sonny Piers was removed from the GNOME Foundation board, no one publicly knows why, on one is talking about it, this is a complete mystery discourse.gnome.org/t/updates-…
in reply to Brodie Robertson

For the sake of both parties involved and the GNOME Project in general, I sincerely hope you’ll handle this responsibly as a prominent content creator. There has been very little information disclosed so far, which unfortunately opens the doors for harmful speculation and bad-faith actors.
in reply to Brage Fuglseth

At this stage I don't have any direct plans to do a video on it, there's some speculation I could discuss but nothing concrete. The GNOME Foundation is in a position right now where if what I've been told is true, they're going to piss people off, and if they don't say anything, people will make things up and piss themselves off.

Thanks, this was reassuring to read. I have very little reliable information about the situation myself, but hopefully we’ll get to know more at some point.
in reply to Brage Fuglseth

You're not the only one, most people in the GNOME project are completely lost with what's happening right now. This is a decision made entirely behind closed doors in the Foundation

Stuff like this is how you show potential big sponsors (especially governments) that you are a sketchy non profit. Secretly removing important people on the project while not telling other members just invites needless suspicion (even if it turns out it was justified later).

This Linux Distro Attempts A Subscription Support Model #Linux #YouTube youtu.be/8rFmDMkzEog
in reply to Brodie Robertson

The thumbnail is probably too small for any text to be readable when viewed on small screens, like on phones. And I can't see any thumbnail at all when using the official Mastodon Android app. All that is shown instead of your video thumbnail is a placeholder icon that looks like the icon for a text document similar to this: 📄.

Maybe that's just a bug in the app. Nevertheless it would be more useful if people would write something like "The Linux distro [name] attempts...".

I moved Matilda from her usual spot on the worktop, because I'm roasting a chicken in the slow cooker, and it seemed tactless. She seems to have settled down to some web browsing.

in reply to Muse

After I posted a meme that was an expression of frustration about a ruling that the US president is above the law, I even appended my own joke comment. I deeply regretted it. Especially, since it encouraged others to make statements of joke violence. I should not have opened that door. I felt even worse after Kyle Gass ended up breaking up with Tenacious D and leaving Australia over a similar, if more overt comment.

It took some time to find that post, but I did and deleted it.

I am hardly perfect. I do not believe violence is the answer to any of our problems. The means do not justify the ends, the means ARE the ends. If we want peace in the world, then we must learn how to create peaceful solutions.

I apologise for my actions. I do know better, and I will do even better in the future. ❤

I've just created a Google Drive-based tool for enabling students to appreciate each other's class participation in a collaborative way. Totally untested, so I have no idea how it might fly. I'd love your feedback! drive.google.com/drive/folders…
in reply to Nathan Schneider

reminds me of an old system (though more groupwork than class participation) developed at my institution but used less and less - sparkplus.com.au/using-sparkpl… - from memory, a key component (picking up from Ostrom's commons management principles) was getting students to specify the participation criteria at the outset - like writing a constitution for the group

Great episode! One thing I would have liked to hear about: what is the economic model for Cosmic development? Is it funded by S76 hardware sales? Or are other distros supporting it?

I'm curious from an OSS sustainability perspective.
