I'm super interested to see what the Website League (websiteleague.org/) comes up with. (I might even join their Discord ๐Ÿ˜ฉ) It's an island network being created by #cohost users that's allowlist-based and very conscious of governance. I'm down for an experiment like that. Why not?

The FAQ on their site has some helpful analogies and values statements. I'm especially curious how I'd find new folks/islands/neighborhoods to connect with in a practical sense. In looking for where to create Mastodon accounts for some things recently, I found that some very relevant instances weren't in the common instance search tools or weren't labeled in ways that made them come up when searching. That scenario seems even more likely in an allowlist-based environment.

in reply to Sos Sosowski

@sos itโ€™s an interesting question, and i think thereโ€™s many complicated parts to it, but only Valve will know for sure

Their choice to have an open platform is certainly unique

@BigAngBlack Oh; the *original* software is the good one, and the fork is the one with the bigots and muppets?

Itโ€™s nice of fools to remove themselves from the pool.

incredible that "giving a shit about other people" is controversial under capitalism.

What a shit economic system our masters have created for us.

Just appalled by my lack of curiosity, not checking the etymology of "autoclave" earlier:

autoclave (n.) "stewing apparatus the lid of which is kept closed and tight by the steam itself," 1847, from French (1821), literally "self-locking," from auto- "self" (see auto-) + clave, from Latin clavis "key" (from PIE root *klau- "hook").

I'm sorry, it took *how* many servers to post a single long message from Ghost to 5k fediverse accounts and handle some replies?

@polotek @poswald Itโ€™s really easy to make mistakes in computing that make a massive difference in performance. For example a database query that runs inside a loop vs outside. And itโ€™s easy to miss when your code runs once but becomes really obvious once it has to run multiple times per second. I would not make any assumptions about the protocol itself based on Ghostโ€™s work in progress implementation.
