I sent my Steam Deck video of Mosa Lina to /r/SteamDeck, it got downvoted to oblivion and the one single comment is:

"Is there any way to block posts that just redirect to YouTube videos? Clickbait rubbish “This Game Is Hilarious” with no text and just a link to the video?"

💀

I felt good about breaking my no-video streak recently until that. People are such asshats.

Anyway video is here: youtu.be/9NswiHmxISo

Five years ago, New York magazine reported less than 60% of web traffic was human while bots masquerade as people.

On days that the Internet seems particularly unpleasant, it’s helpful to remember that many of the individuals we encounter online aren’t real.

thanks for the reminder. How do you find most people think about this?
So many people I talk to either Donte believe this or don’t appreciate the importance

No transaction integration. Soft pay curtain, or totally open, or can have downloads locked via code to manage that otherwise to secure payment or to give to supporters. Easy to rebuild with new scrambled file downloads too if links abused.

Some of us are thinking hybrid: honesty box for donate and maybe new/promo stuff via code? It's granular config per release.

Absolutely not an option for everyone but it's tidy, offers agency, no DRM or tracking, avail now, may be complimentary.

Thank you for clarifying. Between this reply and the homepage, I see what's going on.

@ech That panel is referring to things Biden has accomplished that have widespread appeal, in contrast to US pundits' accusations that Democrats have been pursuing some kind of radical agenda. It is true that Trump promised to fund infrastructure, but he didn't succeed in doing much.

just saying that woman would have been against Trump in a big way.

I doubt the picture is much different I other public sectors either.

Cheers for links.

Need more female faculty members in making tenure policies. Need more female professors as role models to guide the next generation of scientists. Nothing will change if one gender is consistently missing in decision making meetings.

People do not want to engage with logos.

"We have found that readers generally do not engage with content posted on the journal handles and we have had limited success with trying things like threads and tagging thought leaders. Where the engagement with journals content happens is with organic posting — an author or collaborator or thought leader will decide to post a journal article, summarize, and offer an opinion. These posts tend to enjoy a significant amount of engagement."

It's actually quite rare to find journalists who are excited about Mastodon, as most I've met tend to despise it. So it's refreshing to see this journalist being positive about it.

The extended Dawntrail trailer doesn't really add anything new that's importent but I am absolutely excited for this new expansion, I'm loving the style of these zones and I can't wait to see every DPS queuing as a Viper... and we can't forget the Kirito cosplayers #FFXIV #FinalFantasy youtu.be/2ISoqghadkE

For decades, astronomers have dreamed of setting up an observatory on the far side of the Moon. I read about it as a kid. Now it's happening!

The LuSEE-Night radio telescope is under construction, and is scheduled to land on the lunar farside in 2025. It's a pathfinder for a much bigger radio telescope that would follow. newscenter.lbl.gov/2023/09/26/… #space #nasa #science

I wrote about my first two months on Mastodon. I was a Mastodon hater because I thought it would be weird, complicated, or dead. It's been none of those things.

I'm ashamed I didn't join earlier and I'm ashamed I haven't been telling people to join it, because it's a version of the internet and social media I've long advocated for with my reporting: decentralized, portable, user controlled, not corporate:

working on a very short list of helpful command line git tools. so far I have:

* a custom shell prompt with your current branch
* tig for a nicer `git log` jonas.github.io/tig/
* delta for nicer diffs github.com/dandavison/delta
* maybe lazygit (I haven't used it but I hear a lot of good things!)

what am I missing?

(I think GUI git tools are great too but that's not my focus right now)

in reply to nebunez

oh i didn’t know there was a vscode version, what’s it called?
in reply to Julia Evans

It's been a while, and I only used it with a friend who uses VSCode and saw that it worked alright.
I see a few extensions now, but I believe the one we used was edamagit
