Condensing the "Notifications" area
As the user number of Friendica grows, some behaviors do not scale well. One of them is the "Notifications" area.
The problem is that notifications are shown one-by-one - causing me to wake up to 37 notifications from a single post I interacted with. Not only is it kind of annoying - it also risks that other notifications drown in this tsunami of items.
I suggest to group notifications by "Post" - much like it is done on Facebook.
I have created a feature request for this at github.com/friendica/friendica…
🙏❤️
Grouping of notifications
Is the feature request related to a problem? Please describe. There a quite a few areas of Friendica that do not scale well. They have been working fine with a relatively low number of users, but a...jrossstocholm (GitHub)

It's a cold blustery cloudy day in much of Aotearoa-NZ (it's hailing outside as I type this) so to brighten up your day here's a snowberry yellow moth.
I just uploaded my photo from 2023 to #iNaturalist as I work through my backlog. It's now the 29th observation on iNat of the species and will be the 33rd on GBIF once my ID is confirmed.
As the name suggests, the caterpillars of this pretty yellow moth eat NZ snowberries (Gaultheria species).

Oat containers work pretty well for mushroom growing. Small enough to be manageable and good at keeping the moisture in.

I love love love love (in a sarcastic, dark humour sort of way) the title of the article Dr. Laura Revell, Dr. @astrokiwi.bsky.social and I wrote last week theconversation.com/a-new-spac….
But one thing got cut in the final edit: simulations of the night sky with 1 million satellites. I just tried to pitch a separate article on that, I'll see if that gets picked up this coming week or not.
A new space race could turn our atmosphere into a ‘crematorium for satellites’
Planned ‘megaconstellations’ of satellites could cause unforeseen harm to the ozone layer and climate systems. Global regulation is needed before it’s too late. The Conversation
The dots in each grey circle are sunlit satellites, and the colour tells you how bright they are. Anything pink, orange, or yellow is naked-eye visible.
Below each circle is "Nvis" which tells you the number of satellites bright enough to be visible with the naked eye, and "Ntot" which is the total number of sunlit satellites above the horizon.
There are only ~4,500 stars that are naked eye visible.
A million sats this big would be more visible satellites than stars.
Of course, there's no way in hell we'll ever get to 1 million satellites in orbit. We'll be in Kessler Syndrome long before that (many experts say we're already in Kessler Syndrome now, and the timescale between collisions will continue to get shorter).
I"ll also note we're making huge assumptions here on size and orbits, because SpaceX hasn't actually said what they're going to do. And that's fine with the FCC, they're going to approve it anyway. Fuckers.

Why are soap bars that don´t have palm oil so much more expensive?
Anyway I think avoiding palm oil in food makes a lot more difference. You don´t use that much soap daily.
