I made sure to disable it as soon as I found that it was an option.

I don't know much about sailing, but maybe if the wind is right, this thing turns from human powered into wind powered?

in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

This resonates so much with the cover of the book I'm currently reading, /Les mains vides/ by Elio Possoz (and not just the cover, it's a great eutopia/climate fiction/solarpunk story)

(See merveilles.town/@artsun/116159… 😀)

Planches no. 24 cover! It had been a long while since I did a full color illustration that wasn't a photo study, so this was really refreshing.

Knowingly using a piece of software that *BY DESIGN* fabricates text is not "hallucination" - it is fraud. I'd be prosecuted if I sat down and invented references for submissions in a court case. I'd lose my job as an academic if I did the same for a paper. Someone explain why automating fraud has somehow made it completely fine and consequence-free?

The very tiny remaining few of us who still give a crap about "not lying" need to fight to bring back real consequences for fraud, fabrication

Later today, after I shake off the lingering effects of a vacation, we will be announcing a contest where you can win your very own #Plushtodon AND 2 excellent books from #Fediverse champions. Yes, there is effort required to adopt one of these peach coloured cuties because this incredible value is worth working for.

Stay tuned...

#DigitalSovereignty #MastodonCanada

Teaser:
A #Plushtodon Posse, all recent immigrants to Canada, are hanging out in a beach area in Ontario. It's not quite speedo weather yet (they are European after all) so they are catching up on their reading. They're also helping out with house sitting chores but with adult supervision because of their height and lack of thumbs. Soon they will be moving to new deserving homes in the #MastodonCanada community, along with their favourite reading material.

Was führte zur OnlyOffice Entscheidung ?

#eurooffice #deutschlandstack

in reply to ChaP

I don't understand the decision to use OnlyOffice as the basis for Euro-Office. Here are my thoughts:

- Its Russian origin and ties

- Additional conditions to the APGL = crippled open source

- The ODF file format is not natively supported, and the ODF format exported by OnlyOffice is not fully compatible. However, ODF is a mandatory standard in public administration.

What led to the OnlyOffice decision?

(Google Translation)

in reply to ChaP

hey there!

1. What matters is it's open source software. The Euro-Office team is working on the code to make sure it's a reliable and transparent product. You can read about the current state of things and what's next in the article.

2. The licensing question is explained in detail here: nextcloud.com/blog/euro-office…

3. ODF compatibility is something we are currently working on, as mentioned in the article as well.

So @clero you are right in your findings, thanks!

in reply to Nextcloud 📱☁️💻

Couldn't you have come up with a better name than "Euro-Office"? I know ONLYOFFICE wasn't a great name either, but... competing for terrible product names isn't a competition worth winning... 😅

"Humility is a tough sell. On the surface, many Westernized, individualistic cultures don't reward humility. The "squeaky wheel gets the grease," and often the loudest, brashest, and most selfish people grab the power, resources, and money and appear to reap all the benefits and none of the costs. We elevate vanity and praise peacocking; we see narcisstic displays as the cost of doing business. In fact, we have come to idolize such actions as some misplaced form of confidence."

Daryl van Tongeren, PhD from Humble: free yourself from the traps of a marcissistic world 2022

in reply to Muse

Every time I hear "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," I reply with the Japanese proverb: "The nail that sticks up gets hammered down." Doing so often ends conversations, which suits me fine, given the people involved.

The funny thing is, they actually couldn't have gotten away with it in 1997. Oh don't get me wrong, people would tolerate a lot even then and let them get away with horrible stuff, but people absolutely wouldn't have allowed anything remotely like what goes on today. It has been one heck of a long process to get everyone to the point where Microsoft can do everything but install cameras in their house and people will just shrug and accept it.

Actually, we may already be to the point that people will accept the cameras...

Has anyone bought any of the t-shirts that are offered in the Mastodon Shop? I want to buy one but I'm not sure what size to get. The website measures t-shirt sizes by "chest width," which must be an European thing cuz I've never seen clothes measured like that in the US.

My chest is about 20 inches wide, which would put me in a Small size according to their size chart. But I normally wear an extra large so I don't think that's right.

Can anyone explain? Help!

@David I like your thinking. I find, after living abroad, that checks and balances are well worth their while. The main issue is how they are done. At the moment there is a movement in Britain to abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a House of Sortition. The House of Commons would remain.

Having both been a political activist and a policy writer for an Australian political party, I understand that an important part of any politician's job is just administration. This includes advocating for individuals within the politician's electorate. I had a politician advocate on my behalf when my visa to become a resident in Australia was slow in coming. Andrew and I sent a message to our senator and she made sure I could get into the country on time for my own wedding!

So we need people who vote on issues, but we also need people who know how to manage the bureaucracy for their people.
