Love the new Newsletter function in Mastodon 4.6:

'You can now opt-in to allow anonymous visitors to subscribe to your posts via e-mail, so even people who don’t have a Mastodon or Fediverse account and don’t wish to get one can keep up to date with you.'

And a reminder to SUPPORT YOUR ADMIN:

'We chose not to make this available for everyone by default as sending e-mail newsletters can significantly rack up the costs of operating a Mastodon server.'

I’ve begun my journey to reduce my reliance on US tech, so it’s time for an update on how it’s all going.

No surprise, some services are far more easy to replace than others. Email and streaming are low-hanging fruit; maps and messaging can be more difficult. But we should still make the effort.

Very few care what is under the hood of our email servers. And it should be the same for social.

Apparently, I must trust you. I've downloaded it, installed it, attached it to my Gmail account, and have now received my email and sent one out.

Fingers crossed. 🙂

BTW, I was pleased that I can follow them on Mastodon, something they offered as part of the installation.
