The Guardian: Alexei Navalny's Death

I'm hoping his death will stir up a turn over in power in Russia. But how bloody that would be is anyone's guess.

Bronica S2, Fuji Acros film

I've always liked the tonality of the rocks in this image. Acros does such a wonderful job in that regard. You can also clearly see each row of waves as they approach the shore in all of their frothy inevitability. I can almost hear them.

Like I said for Mastodon comments, not going to enable this on my site.

Phew, yeah. The only thing worse than blog comments are social media replies.

To be fair, two-legged horses and all other marvelous things we could see in a lot of those videos are not very realistic, I am afraid 😅

yeah but also it’s awful and ugly and will only ultimately be used to deceive and manipulate people.

some things I'm surprised with that they seem to get it right (trackpads, although terrible position), while other things I'm surprised they get it wrong (I really don't understand the need for a 1920x1200 screen. 800p is great and just more efficient)

There's currently an incident involving some kind of Japanese skids who call themselves the "Kuroneko" organization.

They seem to be attempting to commit DDoS attacks on Misskey servers, constantly creating new accounts on compromised instances and spamming advertisements for their hacking services.

Admins who are federating with these compromised servers, while they might not get compromised themselves, may be affected by the sheer amount of traffic volume from their spam.

Admins are advised to #fediblock or temporarily stop sending requests to affected servers for now, if they don't want to get secondhand DoS'd

IMO I never expected them to be Japanese out of all things, kinda funny. They also host VOICEROID and VOICEVOX TTS bots on their Discord apparently. Kinda a weird flex I guess.

But yeah, probably just a bunch of skids.

if they ever remaster the simpsons hit & run, they should make the time limits on set to kill and alien auto-topsy part 3 even less forgiving

Wowzers, that Mastodon CVE recently was quite something:

• You can inject a post that is attributed to any remote user
• You can overwrite the server's copy of any remote user
• You can rekey the server's copy of any remote user, by just listing another key

The full technical write up is worth a read: arcanican.is/excerpts/cve-2024…

Great article! I hated PE as a kid. Other activities I have always enjoyed doing, I suppose because they didn't strike me as exercise--just fun. I like dancing, singing, long walks in nature (be sure to check these links!). Years later and I'm still recovering from having my back fractured. I am good at keeping at my exercises, because I keep turning them into dance-steps and do them to my favourite music. Walking involves saying "hi" to many of the neighbours, patting all the dogs being taken for a walk, and ends with a lovely cup of tea at my favourite cafe. So, things are getting better. And I feel emotionally better when I do them.

Running or yoga can help beat depression, research shows – even if exercise is the last thing you feel like

in reply to Muse

I am so sorry you had to experience that. PE can be sadistic.
As the new kid the other students would often gang up on me during dodgeball in order for them all to throw their balls at me at the same time. I'd come home bruised every time.
in reply to Muse

On the other hand, I loved fencing in college. Maestro Markie was strict, but he taught us step-by-step, different parries and maneuvers over the semester.

auspol, gambling

abc.net.au/news/2024-02-16/zer…

absolutely disgusting. you can't watch sports with your kids without being drowned in celebrity endorsed ads, teenagers are being encouraged to do "harmless" quick bets on the melbourne cup by their peers, keno is in every pub, and the albo government's response is "well, we made them put a single sentence at the end of the ads"

the labor government took around $13 million in lobbying money from the gambling industry in 2020, by the way

I love the colour and composition of this picture! AND IT'S FUNNY TOO!
in reply to Muse

I guess that folks these days are so attuned to their phones that they could catch a shot like that "from the hip". If you have a hungry gull stalking your ice cream it's a photo waiting to happen.
in reply to Muse

The photo may have been larger. The seagull may have already made lunges at the ice cream. Someone then would catch the shot, trimmed down to the action, then brightened the colour. Easy.
